Chapter 341: Caught and Confronted

****************

Chapter 342

~Dristan’s POV~

The more I stared at Xade and that infuriating smirk on his face, Soren snarled so violently inside me I thought my eardrums would burst.

My claws threatened to rip through my skin as Xade leaned lazily against the locker like he didn’t have a care in the world.

That smug smirk tugged at his lips, the one that screamed challenge, and I swear every part of me wanted to smash it right off his face.

"What the hell is that supposed to mean?" I asked slowly. I stepped closer, lowering my tone so only he could hear, but the dangerous edge was unmistakable. "Protein? Care to explain that before I lose the last thread of my control?"

Xade chuckled softly, a maddening, amused sound that made Soren go ballistic. He tilted his head, his bright blue eyes glinting like ice catching sunlight.

"Relax," he drawled. "You make it sound like I raided her bed."

My jaw flexed. "Didn’t you?"

He paused just long enough to make me see red, then casually crossed his arms. "Depends on what you call raiding. If comforting a pretty girl in the middle of the night counts as trespassing, then... guilty."

My breath caught for half a second, but his smirk deepened, like he was feeding off my reaction.

"Comforting?" I repeated darkly, taking another step forward. "Is that what we’re calling it now? Because from where I stood, sneaking out of her window before sunrise doesn’t exactly scream innocent."

Xade leaned forward slightly, his voice dropping to a whisper that made it sound far more intimate than I liked. "Some things are better kept between Valerie and me."

That was it. Soren lunged within me, snapping his jaws, demanding blood. My fist clenched so hard my knuckles cracked before my body healed itself again.

I ignored the pain that came with it, and for a brief dangerous moment, I saw myself slamming Xade against the locker until his smirk disappeared.

"What? You ate her out, as did Kai? So what’s wrong in having a piece of my mate every morning?"

A deep growl reverberated in my chest as my eyes flashed red, Soren pushing forward.

"Really now?" his voice was cold, and laced with anger as he too unleashed his aura, slamming Soren back which only made matters worse because now my wolf was pushing out.

"Besides, I did it to help with her heat too."

"Yet you never stopped.

"Like if given the chance you would," Xade shoty back.

"Of course I would."

"Then is that why you and Kai try to have her all by yourselves forgetting Axel and I? And even the Lycan twins? Stop being a hypocrite. Valerie is ours and not just for the two of you and last I checked, neither you nor Kai ever asked for permission before claiming her lips or making out with her. So fuck off."

I didn’t get the chance to do anything more when that perplexed voice rang out behind us.

"What?"

The single word sliced through the tension making both of us freeze.

Slowly, we turned in unison, and there she was.

Valerie.

She stood a few feet away, clutching a couple of books to her chest, her wide blue eyes shifting rapidly between us.

I couldn’t tell how long she’d been standing there or how much she’d heard, but her expression... it was unreadable, tight, and uncertain.

And that wasn’t the only change. Xade’s face was of pure utter shock.

"Oh... shit," he breathed under his breath, his earlier arrogance crumbling as his smirk slipped.

Soren growled softly in my head, his instincts instantly zeroing in on her.

"She heard. She knows. Now ask her. Demand the truth."

~Valerie’s POV~

My chest rose and fell sharply as I pushed the words out. "You made me think I was sex-crazed or something... that I was going insane because I kept seeing you in my dreams, night after night, eating me out."

Dristan snapped his head toward Xade so fast it was a miracle he didn’t sprain something.

His blue eyes widened in shock, and in that instant, I knew he didn’t expect this. He hadn’t known for long, if at all.

"How could you, Xade?" I demanded, my voice trembling with anger.

"And you... you act like you’re Axel who hasn’t even laid a hand on her."

Xade’s jaw tightened. "That’s his luck. From the very first day I discovered you were my mate, Valerie, I wanted you. Unlike the three of them, who were too busy worrying about their precious political standings to even see you."

"Shut it!" Dristan growled, stepping forward, his entire body vibrating with restrained rage. "You know damn well it was more than that."

"Yes?" Xade shot back, a bitter smile tugging at his lips. "And has that changed, Dristan? Has anything changed?"

Before Dristan could answer, before Xade could throw more venom, a strong arm slid between them.

"Enough."

Axel stepped forward, his tall frame blocking them both, his expression thunderous. He planted a firm hand on Dristan’s chest, holding him back, while his sharp glare pinned Xade in place.

I stood there, watching, my anger twisting hotter and tighter until I felt like I was suffocating. None of them noticed at first, too caught up in their own war, but I’d had enough.

I shook my head slowly, taking a step back. The motion must’ve drawn Dristan’s attention because he turned immediately, reaching for me, his hand wrapping around my wrist.

"Val—"

"Let go." My voice was low, shaking with fury, and when he hesitated, I snapped my gaze up to his. "I said let go!"

Something strange began bubbling beneath my skin then — hot, wild, uncontrollable. My pulse thundered in my ears, my veins felt like fire, and my entire body heated beyond reason.

I didn’t need anyone to tell me what was happening.

My powers... they were about to break free.
