Charlotte froze for a second, then replied with a simple, "Sure."
Then, she hung up. As she put her phone away, a wave of irritation stirred in her chest.
Right then, Ivy came over with a bottle of wine and two glasses, asking, "Babe, do you wanna have a couple of drinks? Might help chase away the blues."
"Yeah. Let's drink." Charlotte didn't even hesitate.
Ivy smiled and quickly poured a glass for each of them.
Charlotte picked hers up and downed the contents in one go.
Seeing that, Ivy, who had been holding back all night, finally couldn't help but ask, "So… are you gonna tell me what's going on?"
Charlotte didn't show much emotion. She took the bottle and poured herself another glass, saying casually, "It's nothing. Just some messy stuff from the past…"
"What kind of past?" Ivy asked. "You're from Juxburg, right? How'd you get mixed up with people in Marindale? Are they your old enemies?"
Charlotte gave a soft laugh. "If only they were enemies… That'd be easier to deal with."
She knew Ivy was asking out of genuine concern as she treated her as a friend, so she didn't keep hiding it. In a few words, she explained the situation with the Perry family and how she had once been married to Brian.
Ivy hesitated but didn't deny it. "I mean… Yeah, I heard it but didn't think much of it at that time, but now? I think it's complete bullshit! There's no way you'd do something like that."
She had known Charlotte long enough to understand the kind of person she was. There was just no way she'd ever push someone like Lydia out of jealousy to keep her identity. "This whole thing has to be a huge misunderstanding," she said with certainty.
Charlotte looked at her and smiled. "Do you trust me that much?"
Ivy gave her a look. "Duh. Who else would I trust? I know what kind of person you are. You're the kind of woman who'd rather give up everything than cling to what isn't yours… So, what happened after that? How did you and Brian end up divorced?"
It had been years since anyone had believed in her without hesitation. Besides her family, Ivy was the first.
