While Brian and Kayden were on their way back, Lydia and Roxanne had stepped out to go to the bathroom. Without the Norman family present, Roxanne could no longer hold back her frustration.
"What exactly is Brian thinking? After all this time, he still refuses to marry you. How long does he expect to keep you waiting?"
Lydia's expression was just as sour, though she forced herself to remain composed. "No matter how long it takes, the position of Mrs. Norman belongs to me. I won't let anyone else have it. I won't sit by and watch someone else take it."
The thought alone was enough to make Roxanne furious. The Norman family's wealth, even just a fraction of it, was enough to let ordinary families lead a comfortable life for generations to come.
Not to mention, when Charlotte married into the Norman family years ago, the Perry family had already tasted the benefits. With the Perry family's position slipping in recent years, they couldn't afford to let this opportunity pass them by.
As much as they resented it, they had no choice but to swallow their anger and return to the private room.
But Charlotte, standing there, appeared anything but defeated. Her presence radiated a quiet strength. The grace and confidence she carried ran deep, making her shine. She looked elegant and self-assured, far beyond the woman she was during her time with the Perry family.
For Lydia, the shock hit even harder. Charlotte had returned.
