Holt handed over the files and said, "Hey, Ms. Selena, the supplier's invited you to dinner tonight. Are you free?"
Selena didn't hesitate, "Absolutely. This supplier is key for us. If we nail this deal, Irwin Enterprise's stock could double in the next year. We have to roll out the red carpet for them."
Holt nodded, "Got it."
Fast forward to 8 PM at Newport's top-notch restaurant.
Selena was hosting the supplier, Justin, in a VIP suite. He was around her age, brimming with confidence and sporting a scholarly look with his glasses.
The moment Justin saw Selena, he beamed, "Jason kept telling me that while Ms. Selena is quite the beauty, her skills are even more impressive. I was curious about the person who could earn such high praise from Jason, and now that I'm here..."
He paused on purpose.
Selena laughed lightly and chimed in, "So, what do you think? Am I a letdown?"
Justin shook his head, "Not at all. If anything, Jason was being modest."
His gaze was full of open admiration, not hiding his appreciation for her.
Between adults, there's no need for the coy games of the young. The straightforward approach was classy and respectful.
After discussing business, Justin took a sip of his tea and, with a rare touch of bashfulness, asked, "Ms. Selena, mind if I ask, are you seeing anyone?"
His openness was met with Selena's candidness, "Nope, I'm divorced and have two kids. The older one's just over five, the younger almost two."
Having spent many years abroad and only recently back in Newport, Justin wasn't up to speed with local gossip, so he didn't immediately link Selena to the former Mrs. Bennett.
He was just taken aback by her response.
The woman was in a breathtaking evening gown, her hair styled to perfection, effortlessly catching the eyes of passersby.
She was linked arm-in-arm with Everett, and they looked every bit the perfect pair, oozing charm and elegance.
Selena glanced up and froze for a moment.
Running into Everett here with someone else was the last thing she expected.
It felt like fate was having a laugh.
At the same time, Everett's dark eyes landed on Selena and the man next to her.
His gaze narrowed slightly.
