He was young and strong, hardly needing to lift a finger to hold Josh back.
"For this woman, you dare to stand against me?"
Josh’s face went pale with anger, staring at his grandson who he once considered his pride and joy, his eyes brimming with undeniable disappointment.
"Everett, have you lost your senses? Your wife is Selena, not this temptress! Right now, your pregnant wife is at home waiting for you, and yet here you are, spending your days with another woman. How is that fair to her?"
"And this woman, her child is gone because she was careless, clumsy, tripping over herself and then pinning it on my Selena. What nerve!"
"Do you think you can slander my dear Selena so easily? You think she's got no one to back her up, huh?"
Margot sobbed even louder, scrambling to defend herself, "Josh, even if you've never liked me, you can't be this biased. This child was a Bennett, your own great-grandchild!"
Josh let out a cold laugh, his cane thudding heavily against the floor. "In your dreams! Even if your child was born, the Bennetts wouldn’t accept a child with such shady origins. The future heir of the Bennetts can only be the child born to my daughter-in-law Selena!"
He refused to engage further with Margot, turning his gaze back to Everett with a stern warning, "Today, if you let go and allow me to take her away, and promise never to see her again, I’ll spare her life."
"Everett, don’t..." Margot’s eyes widened in fear.
Everett’s brows knitted tightly, his handsome face shadowed with darkness. He met Josh’s cloudy eyes, his voice steely yet unwavering.
"Grandfather, I’m sorry, but I can’t let you take her away!"
"You... You ungrateful brat!"
Josh, boiling over with rage, swung his cane at him.
Everett stood his ground, allowing the cane to strike him, splitting the skin on his forehead and drawing blood.
At his command, the bodyguards snapped to attention, responding in unison, "Yes, sir!"
The bodyguards on Everett’s side also tensed up, ready for action.
The air in the apartment grew thick and tense, on the brink of an explosion.
"Grandfather."
In the midst of the tension, a gentle voice drifted in from the doorway, catching everyone’s attention.
Selena, leaning on Ava for support, walked in slowly.
Her gaze swept over the room, finally landing on Everett’s face.
