The person she saw wasn't Everett, but Derick. A flicker of disappointment crossed Selena's eyes. Derick rolled in a portable TV, adjusting it just so it would be right for her to watch.
"Derick, what's this all about?" Selena asked, puzzled. Was Everett planning a video call or something?
Before Derick could respond, another voice, cool and distant, cut in, "I thought you'd like to watch a live stream." As the words settled, Everett's tall frame filled the doorway. He strolled in with an easy grace, settling by the bed. He gently helped Selena sit up, tucking a pillow behind her back and playfully tapping her nose.
"Did you sleep well?"
"Yeah," Selena replied honestly. For once, she'd slept soundly, free from the nightmare of never reaching her baby. Hoping to steer away from more questions, she asked, "What's this live stream about?"
Was he worried she'd get bored in the hospital? Did he bring the TV for her entertainment?
Everett just smiled, keeping his secret. But Selena didn’t take long to find out what kind of live stream it was.
The screen flickered to life, showing an amusement park. Newport’s largest park, and part of Bennett Corporation. Selena used to love going there, but as far as she knew, Everett never had a taste for such "childish" fun. He’d always turned her down whenever she’d tried to drag him along. And now, here he was, sharing a live stream of the park with her. She almost wondered if she was the one with a concussion today.
Feeling Selena's intense gaze, Everett gently pinched her chin, guiding her attention back to the screen. "Focus on the live stream, not me."
Though there was no real danger, the nonstop bumps left Rebecca swaying and unable to sit upright, feeling as if her brain was getting scrambled. At first, she could still scream and shout, but soon, she was left speechless, her face twisted in discomfort.
Selena watched, stunned. She couldn't deny the thrill of it. This was karma in action.
"Feeling better now?" Everett's deep, soothing voice murmured in her ear.
Selena was no saint and didn't pretend to be. Her lips curved into a sincere smile. "Mr. Everett, whoever dreamed up this punishment is a genius."
