Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire novel Chapter 246

"Mrs. Bennett, do you really think that little of me? Sure, I want you, but I'd never push you when you're not feeling up to it." He paused a moment, then softly added, "I just wanted to hold you while we sleep."

Selena froze. The soft glow from the bedside lamp cast a warm light on his handsome face, making him look incredibly gentle right then. For a moment, she glimpsed the young man he used to be. Back then, he had taken her hand, his young palms dry and warm, and smiled so tenderly, "Thanks for saving me."

"If we ever meet again, I'll remember you."

And just like that, she had fallen for him. If only time could freeze right here, how perfect that would be. Unable to resist, Selena nestled into his arms, listening to his steady heartbeat, breathing in his familiar scent. It felt as if a calming hand had smoothed out the chaos in her heart. She closed her eyes and slowly drifted off to sleep.

The next morning, Selena was up early, while Everett was still sound asleep. She gently moved his arm from her waist, slipped out of bed, and took a pregnancy test into the bathroom.

Following the instructions, she waited nervously for the result. Five minutes later, she took a deep breath, opened her eyes, and looked at the test.

Two red lines!

Selena gasped, feeling like her world was crashing down. She had longed for a child before, but it never happened. Now that she wasn't looking for one, fate had played a cruel joke. She slumped onto the toilet seat, realizing she'd been careless to think birth control was foolproof. But there were times when Everett, caught up in the moment, would skip using a condom without a second thought, or he'd wear her out so much she let her guard down.

Even the best-laid plans have their flaws.

Her mind was a whirlwind, and for the first time, she felt completely lost.

Feigning a yawn, she said, "I'm heading back to bed."

As she brushed past him, Everett caught sight of something in her right hand and raised an eyebrow, "What's that in your hand?"

"Nothing," Selena replied with a forced smile. Everett studied her expression, clearly skeptical.

"Let me see."

He grabbed her shoulder, pinning her against the wall, and reached for her right hand. Selena's eyes widened, her heart racing like a drum.
