Josefina was momentarily taken aback, finding herself suddenly on the defensive as Oliver took charge.
Their kiss was fiery, Oliver's lips claiming hers with an intensity that made it seem like he wanted to consume her entirely.
Josefina pushed Oliver away, wiping her lips to remove the shared saliva. "Oliver, you brute!"
Oliver grinned, unapologetic. "Alright, I'm a brute, but I'm your brute, Josie."
Josefina was at a loss for words.
As he led her into the house, Josefina tried to shake off his hand. "Oliver, we can walk without you holding my hand."
"If I don't hold Josie's hand, I'm afraid she might run away."
Josefina was speechless again.
…
Upon entering the living room, Josefina saw that Oliver had ordered a table full of takeout. BBQ ribs, chili cheese fries, pulled pork sandwiches, slushies, lamb skewers, spicy chili, cornbread, grilled oysters, and giant prawns… There was too much to take in all at once.
"Oliver, how many friends did you invite over?"
"Just you, why?" Oliver looked puzzled.
Josefina pointed at the feast laid out on the table. "You bought so much, were you planning on having a moving company bring your friends over?"
Oliver couldn't help but laugh, finding Josefina even more endearing. He gently guided her to sit. "Josie, don't just look, come eat. I ordered all this so we could dine together."
"Oliver, I've already eaten. I had a hot dog earlier, then some fried chicken, and even chugged down a soda." Josefina patted her stomach. "I'm really too full."
Oliver opened a pair of forks. "Then you can keep me company while I eat."
Josefina sat down, and watching Oliver eat made her hungry again. She grabbed a lamb skewer and took a bite; it was indeed delicious.
