Xavier looked at Ruby, her sweetness and charm bringing a tender smile to his face.
"Ruby, you've been amazing."
"Xavier, I'm fine. It's you who's been through so much with those injuries."
Xavier's mind wandered for a moment before he asked, "Ruby, what's the deal with Josefina? I have this gut feeling she had something to do with my accident."
Without skipping a beat, Ruby replied, "Xavier, Josefina's always jumping from one guy to the next. Today she's at this guy's place, tomorrow another's – she's really shady. If you think she did it, I'd bet on it! She's shameless, knowing you're my boyfriend and still trying to mess things up for us. The nerve of her!"
As Ruby ranted, Xavier pictured the stunning but deceitful Josefina, his expression turning to one of pure disdain.
So that's who she really is!
A disgrace!
"Ruby, you're such a breath of fresh air. I never thought Josefina was like that, but if she's behind this, she's in for a rude awakening!"
"Are you planning to teach Josefina a lesson?" Ruby asked.
Xavier nodded firmly. "Absolutely. She needs to know she can't mess with me. She doesn't have any big connections, and taking her down will be like squashing a bug."
Ruby?
It suddenly hit Ruby that Xavier, having left with Marina, didn't know Josefina was actually Anya.
A sly grin spread across Ruby's face.
Ignorance is bliss.
And ignorance makes it easier to strike hard.
"Ruby, I know you have feelings for Xavier, but it's a pipe dream to think I'd let you two be together. Get over it!"
Unfazed, Ruby calmly said, "Aunt Ren, whether I give up or not is none of your business. As long as Xavier's on board, that's all that matters, right?"
Marina didn't expect Ruby to stay so composed.
No matter what she said, Ruby just looked at her with serene poise, neither pleased nor angry, utterly unshaken.
Marina scoffed, "Fine, let's see if Xavier continues to entertain you! Ruby, thinking you can marry into the Rowland family with your background? You're living in a fantasy!"
"Aunt Ren, if you're off to see Xavier, I won't keep you. Goodbye."
With a slight smile, Ruby walked away.
Marina watched Ruby's retreating figure, her brows furrowed in frustration.
