Josefina chuckled at Reid's persistence. "Thanks for the thought, but let's skip the welcome gift. I’m doing fine financially, no need to send me money."
Reid was stunned. Whenever he sent money to Lena, she was always ecstatic.
Why wasn't Josefina thrilled? Isn't getting money always a good thing?
Puzzled, Reid asked, "Why don’t you want the welcome gift I sent? Is it too little?"
Josefina laughed, "How could it be too little? I've got more money than I know what to do with. I appreciate the gesture, but let's skip the cash. If you’re really set on giving, go ahead and transfer it."
Reid was speechless...
He had already sent Josefina two million, then added another million on top.
Seeing the extra million, Josefina was amused. "Why did you send another million?"
"Just in case you thought it was too little."
Josefina, with a polite tone, replied, "Thanks, I don’t think it’s too little."
Yawning, Reid admitted, "I've been swamped lately, no time to come and see you in person. Consider the gift a stand-in for our meeting. I've got to dash, talk to you later."
With that, Reid hung up, leaving Josefina smiling at her phone’s display, showing an extra two million in her account.
...
Josefina had just settled into her office when her phone buzzed with an unfamiliar number.
"Hello?" she answered.
Ruby’s voice, sharp and harsh, crackled through the line, "Josefina, I never took you for this kind of person. How could you let your friend seduce Xavier? Have you no shame?"
Josefina was flabbergasted.
"Ruby, what’s gotten into you?"
"Ms. Josefina, rest assured, I’ll take good care of myself. Ruby and Xavier can be looney together for all I care!"
Josefina snorted with laughter, "That’s the spirit, let 'em be."
Orla added, "Ms. Josefina, a Miss JosefinaLena from the Harrison family has placed an order for a dress at our company. Should we take it? It’s not her in person, but my digging turned up that it’s indeed Lena who’s behind the order."
Orla had made sure to investigate the new client to avoid any unnecessary drama.
Josefina didn’t hesitate, "Take the job. A fool and his money are soon parted."
She pondered for a moment; the Harrison family had no social events coming up, nor was it Lena’s birthday.
Why would she order a dress?
Could it be for a rendezvous with some mystery man?
