Hattie said, "Alright, now that Carter's finally back, let's give him a break from all the marriage talk, okay?"
With Josefina expecting, Hattie figured she'd ease up on the wedding pressure for her three sons, at least for now. Having a grandchild on the way was a blessing in itself. No matter the surname, they were all precious to her.
"Josie, let me show you the basement. It's technically a basement, but it's got loads of natural light and great ventilation."
Josefina hooked her arm through her mom's as they headed downstairs. Calix and Garrett followed, chatting quietly between themselves.
When Josefina saw the pink and blue play area in the basement, she felt a twinge of envy for her unborn child. Growing up, she never had such fancy playthings. If she hadn't been switched at birth, living with the Harrison family might have been just as blissful.
"Not sure if it's a boy or a girl yet, but pink and blue should cover all the bases," Hattie said with a smile.
"Mom, you've thought of everything."
Whether a boy or a girl, Josefina loved her child already, unconditionally.
Hattie continued, "Josie, don't worry about buying baby stuff. I've got it all sorted. You just focus on eating well, sleeping well, and staying happy. Your dad and I will handle the rest."
Garrett chimed in, "I've got a knack for raising kids."
Calix added, "Sis, I can learn too. Oliver's busy and can't always be there. I think you should do your postpartum recovery at home."
Hattie agreed, "Yes, stay home. I'll arrange for a nanny and a childcare expert. You'll feel more at ease here."
Garrett nodded, "Newborns are a breeze. It's when they get older that things get tricky. Once the baby's a month old, you should take a vacation, Josie. Enjoy yourself; we'll handle the baby."
Josefina felt a wave of gratitude for the love and support from her family.
Holding onto her mom's arm, she said, "Mom, Dad, Calix, you guys are amazing."
