“I knew it was a bad idea to get involved,” Sapphire snapped, pacing the room. “She actually mentioned me? Specifically?”

I lowered my gaze, while Zane looked to the side, his jaw set since the moment we left the house.

“I’m sorry, Sapphire. I didn’t mean to get you into trouble,” whispered.

“I’m not actually,” she said, glaring. “I will only be in trouble if you decide to tell your Dad the truth. That’s what she said.”

I blinked, frowning. “You can’t expect me to just let him stay

with her.”

“How?” I whispered. “What more could I want than to send her back? She’s not gonna leave. Not without a fight.”
