Chapter 277 – Medicine
–LIA’S POV–
I don’t think I was ready for how broken she looked.
My real Mom. The one I had been waiting to see for so long.

She wouldn’t stop clinging to me, her fingers trembling against mine as if the second she let go, I would vanish again. Her sobs shook through her whole body, raw and uneven, and I could feel every tear like it was carving into my own skin.
“It’s okay,” I whispered, holding back my own cries. I had to be strong. I had to show her that she was alive. That everything was fine. “Mom, it’s okay,” I said, wiping away her tears. “Let’s go. Let’s go home.”
“No,” she froze, eyes wide. “Li—Lia, where—where is Dave? Is he okay? Is he safe? That woman… your—your mother–”
“He’s safe, Mom. Dad’s safe,” I promised, pulling her to myself again. “Dad is safe. Let’s just go from here, okay? Zane, help.”
Zane quickly stepped forward and assisted me in getting her to her feet. “Come on, Mrs. Snow. Let’s get you home. You’re okay. We got you.”
We led her outside the cave, but her eyes darted around in fear, like shadows were chasing her even now. She gasped at every

sound and flinched anytime someone moved too quickly. I kept her close, leading her to Zane’s car, and climbing in with her.
We drove back towards the pack house because I couldn’t think of a safer place to be.
That was my home now.
And there were multiple free rooms she could settle into until we got rid of the Moon Goddess.
Mom fell silent except her sniffles, and I started to think what I’d to say to her when we got back.
How would I explain all of this to her?
The supernatural world.
The Moon Goddess.
Werewolves.
Shadows that could talk.
And witches.
It was all too much.
The world felt too loud.

We reached the pack house way too soon, before I managed to form any coherent thoughts. Before I could find answers to the questions that reflected in her eyes.
I knew she’d seen everything. She’d seen what I was, what everyone else with us was.
But I was glad she wasn’t afraid. That she still trusted me and looked to me for comfort.
My heart thumped in my chest, and we all stepped inside, Mom’s hand clutching mine so hard she was leaving marks.
I wrapped an arm around her and led her upstairs, glancing back at Zane once.
He gave me a nod that said ‘you got this‘, and I offered him a smile before looking away.
I opened the first door down the hall and brought her inside. A simple bedroom. Quiet and safe.
I shut the door behind us and guided her to the bed, sitting her down.
Mom started crying at once, broken words spilling out. “I was so—scared. Ev—everything was dark. I thought I heard… and then–”
I caught her hands in mine, holding them tightly to ground her.

“Mom, you’re safe now. I got you. I’m here. And I’m not going anywhere.”
Her face crumpled and she pulled me into another hug.
I embraced her harder, burying my face into her shoulder. “You’re safe,” I whispered again for the hundredth time, even though my throat ached. “No one can harm you again. Not ever. You’re home.”
She shook her head, pulling away to look at me. “I’m not, Lia. This isn’t my home. Where is Dave? Why isn’t he here?”
I released a heavy breath, cupping her cheeks and wiping her
tears away.
“Dad–can’t come today, Mom. But everything is okay. Why don’t you get some sleep? You must be so exhausted?”
“No,” she muttered, her eyes wide. “I—I can’t sleep, Lia. I can’t sleep.”
“I know you’re scared, Mom,” I whispered, my own voice breaking a little. I swallowed the lump in my throat to steady my tone. “There is a lot in this world that you don’t know about. And I will explain it all to you, Mom. I will help you understand everything. But right now,” I sniffed, brushing away more of her tears, “you need to get some sleep. You need to rest. Or you’re gonna get sick. And I can’t afford that, Mom. Not after I just got you back.”

She then took a deep breath, and nodded. “But… you stay here. I—I’m afraid to close my eyes, Lia. I’m afraid the shadows… they’ll get me again.”
“I am here, Mom. Not going anywhere, don’t worry. And no one is hurting you again on my watch. I promise.”
I felt a dull heat spread through me, my heart clenching in my chest.
I couldn’t see her in this state.
So broken.
So scared.
So vulnerable.
This woman was my mother. She’d brought me up. She was the strongest woman I knew.
To see her like this… and know who caused it…
I couldn’t let this go.
I wouldn’t.

Selene had crossed a line even she wasn’t allowed to.
I forced a gentle smile, and slowly guided Mom to lie down, covering her with the blanket. I climbed in beside her, hugging her, running a hand through her hair.

“You remember how you’d stroke my hair to help me sleep when I was young?” I asked softly. “I’ll do it to you today.”
www.
She wrapped her arms tighter around me, and I kissed the top of her head.
“I got you, Mom. Go to sleep. I’m here.”
Once I was sure she’d fallen asleep, I carefully climbed out of the bed and stepped outside the room.
I left the door half open, not wanting to scare her, and remained standing there for a moment.
Heat filled my eyes, and within seconds, Zane was in front of me.
“Lia,” he whispered, taking my arms. “What happened?”
I stared up at him, eyes gleaming purple, hair starting to levitate around my face.

“I’m not going to let this go, Zane,” I stated, my voice mixed with my wolf’s. “She’s not gonna get away with this. Not my Mom, Zane. No one can mess with my Mom.”

He cupped my cheeks, stepping closer to me, his calming scent washing over me. “My love, relax. We can’t be reckless. We need a plan.”
I shook my head. “That comes later. First, I have to ask her what she wants. Why she did this. How she could do this to me. I’ll to ask her to her face, Zane. For once, she needs to answer for her actions. I’m not afraid of her.”
“You should be, Lia,” Zane frowned, his blue eyes wide. “She’s the Moon Goddess.”
“And I’m her daughter,” I replied through a clenched jaw, my eyes flashing brighter. “It’s time she gets a taste of her own medicine. I will pay her a visit, Zane. You can’t stop me.”
Zane sighed, lowering his hands to my shoulders. “Alright. Do what you want. But I’m coming with you, love. You’re not gonna do any of this alone.”
I hesitated, then gave him a nod. “Okay. But ask Emerald to make sure Mom keeps sleeping. I wanna be here when she wakes up. One of us needs to be.”
“Okay.”
