Chapter 250 – Selfish
–LIA’S POV–
I cleared my throat, trying not to let my disapproval show on my face.
”
“Why… uh, why did you decide to stay?” I asked, hoping there would be some huge divine reason for it. “Why didn’t you go back?”
She smiled again, her gaze shifting to the window.
“The same reason anyone stays anywhere,” she replied softly. “I fell in love. With Earth. With the people. With
your father.”
I pursed my lips. “Who is my father? Is he… alive? Is he here?”
“No,” she replied, meeting my gaze again. “He left.”
“Why?” I frowned.
“He was upset that I gave you away even though I didn’t wanna leave. So he left me too.”
“But didn’t you just say that you created me?”
“I did. Just like everyone else. They still need to be born through two parents.” She laughed.

“Right,” I muttered.
My throat felt tight.
Too tight.

I stood up, forcing a smile. “I’ll be right back. I have to go to the washroom.”
She nodded. “Sure.”
I stepped out of the room with Zane, my head spinning.
“Zane,” I breathed. “This…”
He shook his head, looking as devastated as I was. “How can she do that?” he whispered. “She was supposed to watch over all of us. Protect us. Bless us. How could she just come down here and decide to stay? Why did she abandon you if she was here?”
I felt the prick of tears in my eyes.
“We have to talk to her,” I whispered. “We need to convince her
to go back. She can’t just stay down here!” C
“Can we do that?” he asked. “Do you think she’ll listen?”
“I’ll command her if I have to,” I snapped, my eyes gleaming.
“Hey, hey, easy,” Zane muttered, taking my hands. “She’s not

just a human or werewolf that you can command. She’s the Goddess, she created you and gave you your powers. They’re not gonna work on her. If they did, she would’ve forgotten she heard you at all.”
I took a deep breath, feeling the heat diminish from my eyes.
“You’re right. Okay,” I sighed, “I’ll just try to talk to her. Let’s go.”
Zane laced our fingers together, and we stepped back into the lounge.
But Sarah was not where we left her.
She was gone.
–ZANE’S POV–
There was nothing to do for now.
She was gone.
We made our way back to the party, our hands linked.
This was supposed to be a happy day, a celebration of everything we had managed to survive.

But the warmth that had filled the air earlier had vanished now. Like something had cracked open, and we were holding it together with everything we had—while still keeping a smile on our face so no one else would notice.
I glanced sideways at Lia. She was trying to keep her face neutral, even smiling a little when someone waved at her, but I could feel it in her grip—the tension, the unease, the storm that hadn’t settled yet. And I couldn’t blame her.
Because I still didn’t know what the hell to make of what had just happened.
The Moon Goddess.
The literal Moon Goddess.
In our pack house. In a button–down and a pencil skirt. Calling herself Sarah. Not even Selene.
For years, I had imagined her as this distant, motherly figure who floated above us all—watching, guiding, blessing. An embodiment of purity and power and love. I’d prayed to her more times than I could count. Thanked her. Begged her.
But she wasn’t what I thought. Not at all.
She was… real. Flawed. Almost selfish. And not at all how I’d imagined a goddess would be. How the Goddess would be.

She gave Lia away. Stayed behind for a man. Let chaos unfold across the realms while she lived a quiet life here. It didn’t make sense. It made me feel stupid. Small. Like we’d all been looking up to a story, not a saviour.
I didn’t say any of this out loud though. Lia had just met her actual mother—a mother she’d probably imagined for days now—and found out she’d been living right here on earth this whole time. At one point, she’d even started calling the moon ‘Mom‘. She must have been feeling so stupid now. That pain ran deeper than mine ever could.
So I stayed quiet. Let her lead the way. Let the noise and lights of the party drown out the confusion in my head.
