Cherise furrowed her brow and scoffed, “I’m not a fan of such things and certainly wouldn’t spend my money on them.” 

Her current income was enough to provide a comfortable life for her and her two children. 

Wouldn’t indulging in luxury items leave her finances in a precarious state? 

“Of course, I’m not suggesting you should buy anything.” 

Damien lightly quirked his lips and smiled, “But to let you enjoy the shopping experience.” 

“During your conversation with Ms. Lane, you mentioned that you were the heiress of the Tanner family. However, she didn’t believe you and assumed you were boasting.” 

“To convincingly deceive her, indulge in luxury shopping and portray the image of a pampered heiress,” he continued. 

Cherise was momentarily taken aback, but then she realized what he meant. 

“She would become even more suspicious if I wandered the shops without making any purchases. It would seem like I was pretending to be wealthy.” 

“Exactly.” 

Damien’s smile grew wider as he suggested, “You could have also bought a high-end scarf or lipstick when you had the chance. They weren’t too expensive but could have given the impression that you were a luxury goods shopper 

“This way, she will lower her guard around you.” 

Cherise nodded, picked up her phone, and dialed Lucy, “Feel like going shopping?” 

Lucy was in Maeve’s hospital room, talking to Charles, when Cherise’s call caught her off guard. 

“Cherise, are you suggesting we go shopping during work hours?” 

Cherise pursed her lips, “I’ve asked for leave from David.” 

Lucy raised an eyebrow and teased, “What are you planning to buy?” 

“Nothing specific; I’m just feeling down and thought some retail therapy might help.” 

Lucy was puzzled by her response. 

Cherise was feeling down? 

Why did Cherise seem unusually happy lately? 

Damien had been constantly by her side, and Lucy hadn’t seen Cherise laugh so genuinely in a long time. 

“That’s settled then! I’ll request leave for you from David and Mr. Carlos right away!” 

Cherise happily ended the call. 

On the other end of the line, Maeve looked at Lucy in surprise and asked casually, “Is Cherry planning to go shopping?” 

A frown briefly crossed Lucy’s face. 

Lucy had always had a negative impression of Maeve because of Cherise. 

Maeve’s enthusiasm made her somewhat uncomfortable. 

“Charles!” 

Maeve called for Charles. 

Charles promptly retrieved a shiny black card from his bag and declared, “This card has no spending limit.” 

“Go ahead and buy anything that Cherry fancies.” 

Lucy stared at Maeve in disbelief and stammered, “You’re entrusting me with this kind of black card… with no limit… just like that?” 

“You’re Cherry’s friend, so I trust there won’t be any issues.” 

Maeve smiled at her and continued, “After using this card, return it to Cherry.” 

“Initially, this was the card Damien had prepared for her… Maeve trailed off. 

Lucy hesitated before accepting the black card. 

But she couldn’t help but look at Maeve with confusion, “Why the sudden kindness towards. Cherry?” 

“Because of past events…. 

Maeve shook her head and sighed softly, “I made many mistakes back then.” 

“The gravest mistake was refusing to acknowledge the genuine feelings between Damien and Cherry,” she said remorsefully. 

Guilt was evident on her face.
