Marrying the Man in the Dark (Damien and Cherise) novel Chapter 1069

Chapter 1069 Unraveling the Shadows
Damien's gaze remained cold as he said nothing. He had, in fact, harbored suspicions about this for some time now. It seemed implausible that Gwenn could have amassed such extensive information about Cherise's past and wielded it to her advantage with such precision on her own. Especially regarding what happened with Alexis—Cherise hadn't even disclosed it to him, yet Gwenn seemed privy to the details.

The resources and intelligence Gwenn had at her disposal couldn't solely stem from her status as an adopted member of the Tanner family. There must be a strong network of connections behind her, with potentially even more formidable adversaries lurking in the shadows.

"So, I have no reason to fear or fret," Gwenn declared, before sinking into the sofa. "When will the police arrive?"

"Soon," Damien Lenoir replied tersely.

She offered a bitter smile, keeping her lips sealed.

Before long, the butler ushered in the police. Sebastian was suspected of orchestrating Savannah's abduction, and as the mastermind, Gwenn wouldn't be able to evade repercussions either.

"Mr. Lenoir, rest assured, I'll deploy more people to monitor these three!"

Such heinous incidents were rare in a quaint city like Calais, hence the police's serious demeanor.

"We will ensure the law is upheld impartially!"

Damien nodded subtly, then turned to grasp Cherise's hand, observing as the police escorted Gwenn, Sebastian, and Trent into the police car.

Dad had raised Gwenn as his own daughter for over two decades. Such ties weren't easily broken. Understanding and respecting Dad's choices, Cherise had always strived to avoid conflict with Gwenn. Yet it seemed others were intent on doing so on her behalf.

"We should go find Steve," Damien suggested. Sensing Cherise's turmoil, Damien's heart ached for her as he gently smoothed back her hair. "Don't you want to see Savannah?"

Cherise snapped back to the present. "Of course I do!"

She had so much to share with Savannah and countless questions to ask. Amidst her memory loss and Savannah's sudden departure following the wedding, they hadn't exchanged a single word in almost eight years before being separated once more.
