Rohan returned to the dark demon world, which appeared even more desolated and ruined after coming from a world that looked way too advanced and beautiful. Everything in the dark demon world was scorched black with dark ashes.
Rohan just stood aside as Ereves got reacquainted with his people. Not that he hugged them or anything; he stood while they each went forward and knelt to take his hand and put it against their foreheads in greeting and gratitude for sending his son to save them after many years of imprisonment.
"How did you find out about us, Your Greatness? Our powers to communicate were locked, and everything about us was cut off. They put us in a place where no other demon or any of our kind could sense us," the oldest of the five demons asked Ereves.
Ereves explained that it was the Droot, who had been snooping through the vision ball Rohan had given him access to when the world was being destroyed. Rohan had allowed him to use it so he could watch over his children. But ever since then, Ereves had not been able to use the vision ball again, because the Droot had claimed it for himself and used it to look and explore the world outside theirs.
During his wandering, the curious creature discovered things even Ereves would never have known about if the Droot hadn’t gone snooping.
"...he found three demons of light in disguise in the human world, posing as noblemen helping people. They were talking about how Thomas had caught you years ago and how, with you five in prison, it would prove to the other kind demons that they were strong enough to hold the demon of darkness in captivity," Ereves explained. "It was then I realised you were not all dead."
"I can’t believe we were saved because of your Droot, my Lord."
They all went to find Ereves’ Droot and gave him praises before they turned to be introduced to Rohan, who stood leaning against the tower wall, watching them with a blank face, his hands crossed over his chest and his legs crossed at the ankles.
His presence was somewhat daunting even to the demons who were older than him, because they had only just witnessed him render the entire race of the demons of light powerless by defeating their lord. The memory was still clear inside them, fresh enough to make them approach him with caution. Hence, when they faced him now, it was with the utmost respect and a kind of relieved gladness.
"Thank you so much, Your Highness, for coming to our rescue. I am Emris, the last demon after His Greatness’s existence and the least powerful among the high demons. Though I am not as powerful as your father, you can count on me and my offsprings to come to your help at any time you need us," Emris, who looked as young as his offsprings, said, bowing his head to Rohan and showing how his loyalty would be with the prince if he were ever to need help.
"I am glad to hear that, Emris. And it is nice knowing you," Rohan replied with a faint smile, already impatient to leave and go back home to his family.
Emris’s two sons, who Rohan realized were twins that had come from Emris’s last seed, stepped forward next and introduced themselves. Both of them looked alike, and they were as tall as Rohan was. "I am Reed, and this is my twin brother Zyran. Just like what our old man says, we will be a call away whenever you need us. Seeing how our world has turned out to be, we will have so much to do in fixing it. Everything used to—"
Kamari let out a disappointed sigh, playing with a strand of her dark hair around her index finger, as she said, "No wonder your aura held a feminine scent. You have marked a human female. Lucky her, she will get to live for as long as you live. Many humans used to give their souls to be marked by our kind in the ancient times."
Rohan, who looked disinterested, suddenly looked interested at what Kamari said and narrowed his eyes. "Do you mean because I marked her, she will live my lifespan?"
Kamari nodded her head. "Yes, she’s now your soulmate, and demon soulmates die together. You didn’t know about this?" she asked. Since it was common knowledge to their kind, she expected he would know, but then realizing he hadn’t grown up in their world to know the common knowledge, instead of what others believed, it made sense.
Ereves, who was watching and hadn’t been taking part in what was unfolding, finally spoke. "That was why I once told you you can’t mark a dead person. Your first marking didn’t reach her soul; that was why it was fading and wasn’t strong, because she wasn’t someone belonging to the living world. But now that she was given back her mortal form and brought back without anything connecting her to the dead, you have marked her for life. You share her pain just like she shares yours; you share her sorrows and her death, which is less likely to happen unless you die first."
Rohan took in this information, feeling an immersive relief rather than unfortunate, like a normal demon would have felt by marking a human. It meant he wouldn’t have to turn her into a vampire, and his wife would still stand by him for as long as he would live. He wouldn’t need to carry fear of losing her and...
Rohan’s thoughts immediately seized as he realized something. She now shared his pains and feelings, which meant when he had been stabbed and knocked down to the ground in the world of the other demons, she must have felt the pain. He belatedly realized he wasn’t feeling her now, which meant she was either unconscious or in a fast deep sleep trying to recover.
