Days after Belle’s death in Aragonia, the people of Aragonia, who were unaware that they had poked a sleeping beast, had just received the news that their troops had successfully made it into Nightbrook. This news was sent directly to the king, who was currently sitting with the duke and other officials in the courtroom, all of whom roared in victory.
"We were able to protect our borders from the vampires, and currently the fight is still going on," reported the messenger to the king. But despite the good news he was delivering, he looked slightly nervous for some reason, and one of the officials who noticed this asked,
"What’s wrong? This news calls for a celebration. In no time we will take over Nightbrook and put a human ruler there to stop the vampires’ existence. Why do you look like it’s not something good?" asked the man to the messenger, causing the rest to also notice the messenger’s nervous look.
"Actually, sire... this message was written many days ago by the commander and has only just arrived in Aragonia. It was delayed on the way here as the border was blocked. There is no new update about the progress of the war, but we have just received new information that something unusual is happening in many other lands. Bimmerville has been attacked by strange creatures, with fire coming out from the ground. Novaria is said to have been swallowed by lava yesterday, with thousands of deaths..." The messenger went on to report the disasters happening in many neighboring kingdoms, and Aragonia was the only one that hadn’t been hit yet.
Everyone listened with frowns on their faces.
"What do you mean? What is the cause of all these happenings?" asked the king as murmuring broke out among the officials.
"It hasn’t been known yet. But people who have heard of it are saying that the world has been cursed. I suggest, Your Majesty, that we—" The messenger started to speak, but his words were cut off as the ground suddenly began to shake. The floor split open, and the walls cracked all the way up to the ceiling. There was a thunderous sound that made everyone fall to the ground as it seemed the palace was about to collapse on them. The king crawled under his throne chair, and the officials ran under the tables in panic.
But just when they believed the building would collapse on them, everything went silent, causing them to look around in confused alarm.
"What was that? Has the disaster reached us?" asked one of the officials as he peeked out from under the table.
As they began to relax that the building wouldn’t come down on them and crawl out of their hiding places, the opening on the ground cracked again, becoming bigger. Suddenly fire blazed out of it, engulfing everything around. In no time, Aragonia began to burn, houses breaking down and collapsing to the ground like earthquake.
Few days ago, before the disaster hit the world...
A figure could be seen walking through Grimvale Forest with two refills in his hands, his broad shoulders set in determination and his long legs moving toward the danger zone where every vampire in Nightbrook knew not to go, as they were aware that side of the forest had been infested by rogues. However, this person had nothing to lose nor did he hold any fear for what lay in that part of the forest. He walked with the wind blowing fiercely against his dark-blue hair.
His footsteps were so silent that even the rogues laying low and waiting for their meal couldn’t hear them. When he reached the middle of the danger zone, both hands that held the refills moved skyward, and then he fired them. The sound of the gun in that silent part of the forest echoed like thunder, and immediately after the sound went off, around every corner of the forest the rogues, who had rotten to the point they had lost their eyesight but not their hearing, came awake and began to rush in the direction, bumping and hitting each other to get there.
Rohan stayed where he was after firing the refill, and he watched as the leaves and trees moved and rustled as the savages began to run toward him. That’s right, come to me... it’s high time you all have meals, he thought as he looked at the swarm of rogues. It was only when they came closer to him that he opened his wings and moved skyward, leading the creatures in the direction he wanted them to go by firing the guns several times more.
They followed him out of the danger zone.
Meanwhile, the war went on in full blow without any of them knowing what was coming for them. The humans were gaining the upper hand with the troops and weapons they had built to kill the entire night creatures. The war wasn’t only happening in Nightbrook, but in the other human lands the vampires had sent their troops to invade beforehand.
The human troops had already made their way into the land from the border and were currently fighting off the vampire troops inside their lands. The human troops were divided into sections, and while some troops were fighting, some were strategizing the next attack.
The human army commander leading the strategizing troops was standing with them and organizing the next cannon fire to set the houses on fire when he thought he heard something. He raised his head with a frown on his face.
