Chapter 411: A kiss that leads to something_Part 2

"Don’t cry. You are allowed to come to me whenever it rains," he said, trying to appease her. But his tender words only brought more tears to Evenly’s eyes as her heart warmed up to him all over again instead of hardening.

Wouldn’t she be called foolish for letting herself fall for another man after all she had been through? But how could a man be so gentle, so opposite from the one who had hurt her before? His touch on her cheeks was so delicate, so kind, that it brought even more tears to her eyes.

Rav noticed the tears flowing even more the longer he wiped them, and he grew restless and unsure, not knowing what he was doing wrong to make her cry harder. He used his hand to lift her chin so she would look at him, but she stubbornly kept it down until he raised it with a little more firmness.

Her eyes were filled with tears that tugged painfully at his chest. "What’s wrong?" he asked softly, and she shook her head, saying nothing for awhile.

"I want to sleep..." she choked out, dipping her chin back down with his hand still on her face.

If she were truly a woman with sense, she would stand up and walk out of the room, and out of his life too. But perhaps she had been so deprived of a man’s care and touch that, despite everything he had said earlier, she was still willing to stay.

Rav sighed and then took his hands from her face, bending down to remove her shoes for her before gently pushing her back onto the bed.

"Let’s sleep then," he told her as she allowed him to help her lie down. He then went around to the other side of the bed and took the sheets he had placed on the floor as bedding, coming around to cover her with them.

All the while, she watched him quietly as he tuck her in, seeing for the hundredth time how different he was from Josh, and how her heart was helplessly falling for him.

Rav lay on his back on the other side of the bed, listening to the rain outside while staring at the ceiling, trying not to think about why he suddenly had the urge to make her happy, to cheer her up.

He felt her move closer when thunder rumbled, and he stiffened as her scent filled his lungs with every breath. Her body pressed against his, just like that night when they had shared a bed. But this time, she placed a hand on his arm, her fingers curling gently around his sleeve.

"If I’m forcing you into doing things you don’t want to, Rav, don’t do it because you think you have to please me for being a lady... like sharing your bed," Evenly said softly after regaining some control over her emotions, her gaze fixed on his still profile.

"You’re not forcing me. I... I like sharing it with you," he told her truthfully, clearing his throat, which made Evenly’s eyes brighten softly in the dim light of the room. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

"You do?" she asked, and he nodded. But she frowned and added, "It doesn’t look like it, with how stiffly you’re lying down. It’s your bed; you should relax, because I’m feeling bad for it," she told him softly, her tone trying to sound light, even though her heart was beating faster than she liked to admit at his revelation that he liked sharing it with her.

Her words made him turn to his side to face her, his head pillowed on his bent arm. Their eyes met and locked in the quiet room.
