Married To The Mad Vampire Lord novel Chapter 407

Chapter 407: "Come here."

"Then we should forget about finding Astral. Let him remain in hiding forever. I can’t lose you," she muttered, pressing her lips against his damp skin and tightening her hold around his neck.

"You won’t lose me. I’ll find other ways to get rid of anything Isabelle is leaving behind, even if I have to use a witch’s help," Rohan reassured her. As he felt her hold tighten, he knew she was afraid of losing him just as much as he was afraid of losing her. If there was anything he knew about himself, it was that he wasn’t the kind to think sacrificing one to save the other was ever a way out. If the role were reversed, he would never have liked his wife to give any sacrifices, because there would be no use in being alive without her there.

How one could live their life alone and think they were content, but then, the moment they fell in love and formed a deep bond with their partner, their life began to revolve around where that person was, was something he was only beginning to understand. Once, he would never have cared about someone dying, but now, he cared about Isa more than anything in this world.

"Can a witch help me?" came Belle’s curious question, her lips still pressed against his neck. The soft movement sent a warm shiver down his spine, making the hairs on his body rise on end.

"It won’t hurt to give it a try. When your body was being possessed by another soul while we were in Aragonia, I had wanted to get a witch to drive her away with a spell. If Isabelle has planted a part of her soul in yours, then if we get a powerful witch, she might be able to separate the two of you."

Though Rohan sounded confident, he didn’t feel it. If it turned out Isabelle’s fragment was truly in his wife’s soul, it meant it had been there for a long time, and perhaps Jamie’s betrayal of Belle many months ago must have stirred Isabelle’s dormant anger back to life. What he actually didn’t understand, however, was why Isabelle would plant a part of herself in Belle, and since when had she done it?

Was it during that attack he was involved in years ago? Or was it right from the beginning?

As if reading his mind, Belle asked, "What is she trying to achieve by leaving a part of her in me? Since when had she done that?" She muttered softly, "Because I don’t remember carrying emotions that are not mine until recently. What else do you think she wants to achieve by that? I sympathize with her, really, and I wish she never had to go through everything she went through... but she’s ruining my life with her own emotions. I really don’t want them." Belle muttered dejectedly, hugging her arm more tightly around her husband.

Rohan’s brows knitted together in thoughtfulness as he subconsciously raised his hand from the tub to wrap his fingers around her forearm as he spoke. "I can’t seem to come up with reasons why she kept her parts, but if you look at it, she has already gotten her revenge on many of those she believed hurt her. Deven died many years ago, and the town that had turned on her became a haunted place. Claire lost everything dear to her, and—"

"Claire? You met her?" Belle asked, moving her lips away from his neck and turning her head to the side to look at him.

"Hmm," Rohan hummed softly, remembering the elder woman who had made him feel like a son, even though it was for just a day. Though he didn’t like betrayals and strongly believed every betrayal deserved death, the woman had lost enough in life to pay for what she had done as a youth.

"I met her. She was Mrs. Biggers, the same elderly woman you said was nice to you in Aragonia." He told her everything about his meeting with the woman, from how she had thought he was her son to how fragile and broken she’d seemed. "If I am right, from her fragile condition, she must have died by now. Nobody who had hurt Isabelle is still alive."

"Jamie is alive," Belle whispered softly, staring blankly into the distance as though she were getting lost again.

"Jamie has nothing to do with what happened to Isabelle," Rohan pointed out carefully. "The bastard wasn’t even born then. It was his great-grandfather who offended Isabelle."

"Isabelle doesn’t think so now. Whenever I see him, she gets triggered, especially now that I know the same greedy, selfish blood runs in his veins, just like Deven." She paused, her voice tightening. "He caused Lady Althea’s death. He pulled her forward and watched her burn. Maybe his death will set Isabelle free... maybe that’s what she wants before she’ll stop being triggered." She turned to look at her husband.

The corner of Rohan’s lips pulled up a little. "Jamie won’t be alive for long, Isa, because I took care of him before we left Aragonia. He will spend the rest of his life in the madhouse, and if he is not strong enough, he will lose his life or his sanity soon enough."

Belle was momentarily taken aback by his words. "How did you do it?" she questioned as she relaxed against his shoulder again, listening to him tell her how he had taken care of everything in Aragonia, assuring her that her family would never again be a problem because they no longer remembered her.

Belle searched within herself for a part that felt sad that she no longer had a family in Aragonia, but there wasn’t any part. She felt absolutely nothing but deep relief. They had never been a family to her since that incident, and she had come to accept that they never would be. Perhaps it didn’t hurt because she had stopped considering them as anything other than strangers.

"I didn’t know you and our son did that much to get me out of trouble..." she whispered, feeling her throat tighten with emotion at the efforts they had put into saving her. But because of everything she had been through, she hadn’t even acknowledged any of them, not Rav, not Evenly. "Thank you for being there for me whenever I needed you," she murmured in a small voice.

"Never thank me for my responsibilities, sweetheart. I will do much more than that if it means saving you. And I won’t give up until I separate you from Isabelle," he said softly as he turned his head and kissed her cheek, savoring how her breath felt cool against his wet skin. He turned further until their lips met. She opened to him, welcoming his tongue into her mouth.

He lifted his very wet hand and reached to undo the buttons of her bodice, but his fingers were too slick. "Take this off," he said, tugging at one of the buttons.

She nodded, pulling back from his mouth to take it off for him.
