Married To The Mad Vampire Lord novel Chapter 381

Chapter 381: Preparing for the event_Part 2

"Well, to many it’s the time of the year when they put their daughters out for suitors. Everyone dresses to outshine the others, it’s like a competition. Noble young ladies who wear the most expensive and trending dresses and jewelry are treated like princesses, and the ones who wear the least are treated like maids, as if they are nothing, with no feelings, just pushovers. All the years after I came of age to attend the ball, I have been in that position. So, you see why I don’t look forward to it?"

Belle said with a dry laugh before picking up her son and going to put him into the cold water in the tub behind the wooden divider for his bath, with Evenly following behind.

"You should definitely look forward to it," Evenly remarked as she leaned against the divider, a glimmering look in her light-red eyes. "You are no longer the same as you were in those times, Belle. Did you know all the dresses you have in that trunk of yours are something that has only recently come to Aragonia, many can’t even afford them? Any one of them you wear will put you in the above rank. You can definitely get back at those who pushed you over."

Evenly couldn’t hide her excitement because she disliked noblewomen who put other women down, which was why she had no close friends, as she found many nobles narrow-minded and utterly insensitive. But when it came to paying people back, she enjoyed things like that.

This morning, she had woken up looking for ways to escape being in Rav’s company alone because, for some reason, after last night, she couldn’t take her mind off how he had tenderly wiped her tears. He made her heart misbehave, and she had immediately escaped to come here when Rohan told her to. Now that there was something to look forward to, putting some senseless nobles in their place, she couldn’t help her excitement.

Belle, who heard Evenly’s words as she rubbed a foaming washing cloth over her son in the cold water, momentarily paused with a thoughtful look while Angel giggled and splashed at the bubbles on the surface of the water. "I haven’t thought of it that way, getting back at them, I mean."

In the past, they had made her life miserable. She would leave the hall with drenched, messy dresses and wet hair where they had all spilled their wine on her, and some even their desserts. Some had gone as far as to spit on her, just because they thought her plain with her simple dresses and no-makeup face, which made even the servants in the palace look better than her.

Though she wasn’t going to this ball to be a part of the society’s game of showing off, it was something that couldn’t be avoided for as long as you were a lady attending. Evenly was right: if she dressed accordingly this time, no one would dare look down on her, and anyone who tried could be swiftly put in their place. She had a greater backup than anyone could ever dream of, her husband wasn’t only the most feared man, but she also had vampire friends standing beside her.

Her mother might have hinted that she should dress plainly for the event, but Belle had no intention of following the advice of a mother who never gave it out of genuine care of what happened to her. By dressing well, she could avoid unnecessary drama and silence any scorn before it even began.

"What do you think I could wear from everything I have?" Belle asked for her friend’s suggestion as she washed Angel’s hair with soap. The boy began to lick the soapy water trailing down his face. "No, don’t lick it, it’s bad." She quickly rinsed his face while she listened for Evenly’s reply.

"I know which one would be perfect for this event! Get on with Angel while I look through your things and pick it for you!" Evenly said happily as she hurried away from the bathing space back into the room.

A few minutes later, Belle had finished dressing her son and had taken her own bath. She was now sitting in front of the dressing mirror as Evenly directed Anna, Belle’s former maidservant, on how to do her hair and her makeup in a subtle way that wouldn’t be too much or too plain.

Angel was put down on the bed after being fed another bowl of porridge, along with some milk that Belle had expressed into a cup for him to ease both his hunger and her own aching fullness. He sat there contentedly, watching them fuss over his mother in silence, his curious eyes following every movement as though wondering what they were all doing.

As Evenly watched the maid work on Belle’s hair, adding pins to hold the mass up in a way she recalled the impostor of yesterday, who had possessed her friend’s body, had done, she quickly said, "No, not that way. Put it on the left side." She instructed, showing the maid how she wanted it done, not wanting Belle to look like the impostor.
