"Before you can kill her, you’ll have to go through me first," Evenly gritted, resentment shining in her clear blue eyes as they met the vampiress who was still smiling.
Cordelia’s smile widened. She had nothing against this particular human if it wasn’t for her husband’s money, which she was after, but then it seemed killing her along with the other human girl would be a bonus to her in getting what she wanted faster and creating her own legacy and wealth.
Rohan’s betrayal still remained deep and fresh inside of her, and unless she killed the human, she would never know peace and her pride would never be restored. She was the reason he hated her and gave her no attention, nor did he pity her enough to give her from his wealth when she became desperate.
"Beat them up together," she ordered as she stared at the blue eyes of the human in front of her.
Belle, who was still on the ground, began to slowly inch toward her crossbow again as she watched how Evenly stood confidently in front of her while the others in their group were hiding.
She couldn’t allow Evenly to get hurt just because she was standing up for her, but it seemed Cordelia and Evenly had already made enemies of each other. Belle thought about this as she decided she would at least not let herself be beaten to death without trying to put up a fight.
She had just grabbed the hilt of the bow when Stephanie charged at Evenly, but to Belle’s, and everyone’s, astonishment, the woman evaded the kick that came at her. Then she twisted smoothly, punching Stephanie squarely on the nose.
The force of the punch made a sickening crack, and blood spurted immediately. Evenly followed it up with a swift kick to Stephanie’s back knee, making her lose balance and crash to the ground with a bleeding nose.
Evenly didn’t give the vampiress a chance to recover. She stepped forward with precise movement and slammed the back of Stephanie’s neck with her booted foot, forcing her back down and leaving her groaning against the wet dirt.
Belle stared with wide eyes at how effortlessly Evenly had brought the vampiress to her knees, blood dripping from her face. She had not expected that the delicate-looking lady knew how to fight—and it seemed none of the others had expected it either, because they looked stunned before their expressions twisted into amused displeasure.
"I did not see that coming," remarked the male among them as he watched Evenly, who still stood protectively in front of Belle. "This shit is getting more exciting, Cordie. But I don’t think we should waste our time beating them instead of just killing them. Steph, you all right?"
He reached out a hand to his wife, the vampiress on the ground, and she took it, rising to her feet with murderous red eyes locked on Evenly.
However, not long after she brought Stephanie down, the husband stepped in. He was a pureblood vampire. Belle noticed how the man’s strength completely overpowered Evenly’s. His kicks and punches were so strong that, before long, Evenly was struck with a blow that knocked her against a tree and down to the ground, leaving her unable to stand.
Belle did not waste time as she saw Stephanie approaching Evenly with a sword in hand, which she had taken from her husband, who looked proud that he had beaten the human to the point she could not stand up.
As everyone’s attention was on Evenly, who was struggling to stand again but could not, as she had been hit in a fatal spot, Belle raised her crossbow to aim at the hand holding the sword. But because she was terrified and utterly scared of shooting a living person, her hands were trembling, as well as every nerve in her body jolting.
Just as Stephanie raised the sword as if to cut down Evenly, Belle released her arrow. It flew through the air and hit the vampiress straight on the wrist, piercing through it with a sharp snap. Stephanie screamed as the sword fell from her hand, and everyone turned to look at Belle, who had shot the arrow.
She had just dug her own grave, and she wouldn’t allow herself to fall into it now. She hurriedly grabbed another arrow, wanting to shoot at whoever came to hurt the other woman on the ground, or even her, but one could only go so far with trembling limbs and shaky nerves. Because the moment she set the arrow, Cordelia had raised her gun and aimed it towards her, and in a heartbeat, she pulled the trigger.
Belle let out a scream and fell to the ground as the gunshot banged and echoed along with her scream.
