Married at First Sight (Serenity and Zachary) novel Chapter 5588

Stuart assumed Laurence was simply stopping by and had indeed neglected his duties. He thought Laurence and Noelle would not bother drinking tea anyway, so he had simply brewed two cups using old tea leaves.

Well, that was all he had left anyway. He had sold all the good tea for cash.

After leaving the hall, Stuart pulled out his phone and called Tony.

Manny probably was not home, but Tony was retired. Besides, Laurence just mentioned coming from the main estate, which meant Tony should be at home.

When Tony answered, Stuart lowered his voice and pleaded, "Help me! Laurence suddenly showed up at the villa and wanted to check the ledgers. This year's fresh tea is gone. He wants to know where it went."

Tony frowned. "So what if he went to the villa? Why does he suddenly want to check the books and specifically investigate the tea? Did you sell all of it? I told you, you could've just sold a pound or two. How could you sell everything?"

Stuart's face flushed, and he whispered, "Well… Manny took most of it. I figured no one would drink the rest, so I sold what was left. I was a little short of money when I bought my car."

"You were short of money for a car? Stop making excuses. I told you before to never take everything. You must always leave some behind."

Tony scolded him. "Look what’s happened now. You're about to get caught by Laurence. There's no time to falsify the accounts even if you wanted to."

After a pause, he continued, "Laurence is smart. Even if you managed to cook the books, he'd still find out. You let your greed grow too big. Why are you calling me now?

"Do you expect me to save you? My own family can barely protect ourselves. Don't let Laurence's polite manner fool you. The people he wants to eliminate the most are my son and me."

After all, Tony and Manny had served as the acting heads for a combined thirty years. Tony was even the one behind the deaths of the previous family head's household. He was Laurence's nemesis.
