Romina put down the bouquet and took the brocade box, opening it to examine it. It was a complete set, simple and elegant in design, exactly what she liked. 
She just liked simple and elegant things. 
“Would you like me to cut it up for you?” Merissa asked considerately. He was eager to see how it would look on her. 
 
  

After examining it, Romina closed the brocade box and put it back in the bag. He pushed the bag back in front of Merissa and said, “Merissa, this is too valuable. I can’t accept it.” 
“We haven’t reached that point yet.” 
The bouquet was worthless, so she could accept it. 
But she wouldn’t accept an expensive gift, fearing it wouldn’t work out between them and she’d owe him too much. 
Merissa looked her in deep thought and said, “Romina, I’m pursuing you. Men always give gifts when pursuing women. My set of jewelry isn’t expensive, just over a hundred thousand. I think it’s probably the cheapest of all your jewelry.” 
It wasn’t that he didn’t want to give her something nice, but he knew she wouldn’t accept it. 
After they confirmed their relationship, he would return to the old house, search through his mother’s collection of precious jewelry, and give Romina two sets. 
Anyway, her mother said that her treasured jewelry collection was to be divided among her three daughters-in-law, and would eventually belong to Romina. So she asked her mother for two sets in advance and gave them to Romina. 
Her mother was happy to do so.

“Aside from a bouquet, I won’t accept any other gifts.” 
Romina looked directly at Merissa. “Merissa, if nothing works out between us… you should understand what I mean.” 
Merissa said seriously, “Romina, trust me. I will resolve our problems. Just like my sister-in-law said, even if we’re in the same industry, we don’t have to be enemies.” They can even become partners. 
Romina adamantly refused to accept the jewelry. Merissa had no choice but to say, “I’ll keep it for you. I’ll send it back when you’re willing to accept it.” 
At least, she was willing to accept the bouquet, so there was still hope. 
“Romina, can I treat you to a meal?” 

Romina breathed a sigh of relief when he didn’t force her to accept the jewelry. They had been arguing with each other for years and knew each other well. If she said no, she meant no. 
She smiled, “You came here to treat me to a meal, didn’t you? I’ve already finished work and was waiting for you to treat me to a meal.” 
Merissa smiled, “Then, let’s go to the Yangcheng Hotel. I’ve booked a private room there.” 
“Do you have any social engagements tonight? If not, after dinner, let’s go see a movie. We’re so busy at work, we never really relax.” 
Romina was about to agree when her phone rang. 
She pulled out her phone and checked the caller ID. It was her high school class president. After graduation, she hadn’t interacted much with her classmates, mostly due to her busy work schedule. 
She hadn’t followed any special path in her studies; she’d progressed through the ranks like anyone else. 
Before graduation, her teachers and classmates hadn’t known she was the eldest daughter of the Lan family in Yangcheng, a child of privilege. 
When they learned she was, she’d joined the family’s company after graduation and started at the bottom. To her surprise, some of her classmates wanted to curry favor with her, but she declined, citing her busy work schedule. 
Over the years, she hadn’t interacted much with her classmates.
