Married at First Sight [On-Going]
Chapter 4567
Romina led River and the kids to the street across from where they had been.
As she had said, that street was lined with stationery and toy stores.
She brought them straight to the biggest toy store on the block. The place was packed— parents with kids everywhere, browsing toys and shelves bursting with color.
“Baby, pick whatever toys you like,” Romina said to Maverick with a smile. “Aunt Romina’s buying for you and your sister.”
She gently set Bethany down and took her tiny hand in hers.
Maverick glanced up at River.
River grinned. “Why are you looking at me? If your Aunt Romina wants to be generous, go ahead and pick more. It’s not every day she opens her wallet this wide.”
Romina shot him a look. “When have I ever been stingy? The last time I went shopping with you, didn’t I buy a ton of stuff for them?”
“Sure, you’re generous with them—but you’re super stingy when it comes to me,” River replied, his tone just a little bitter.
Romina watched as the two little ones excitedly explored the store. River instructed the nannies to stay close and keep an eye on them.
She turned back to River. “You know exactly what kind of relationship we have, don’t act clueless.”
River chuckled lightly. “In business, we’re competitors. But when we’re not talking shop, I’d say we’re… friends. We’ve known each other five or six years now.”
Romina rolled her eyes. “Who’s your friend?” she muttered before following after the kids.
Maverick made a beeline for more building blocks. Uncle River had already bought him a lot, but there were still plenty of styles he didn’t have. If Aunt Romina was buying, it would be rude not to pick a few more.
Bethany was enchanted by everything. She flitted from one thing to another before finally settling on a soft rabbit doll with an irresistibly smooth texture.
“Belle, is this all you want?” Romina asked.
Bethany nodded enthusiastically. “Rabbit! Rabbit!”
Maverick said, “My sister has a ton of rabbit toys at home. She really loves them. She always hugs one to sleep.”
Romina smiled. “Rabbits are adorable.”
Since Bethany only wanted the bunny, Romina bought it for her. Maverick picked just two sets of building blocks.
Romina paid for everything, then picked Bethany up and headed toward the exit.
“They’re such well-behaved kids,” she said as they stepped outside. “Most kids would’ve tried to grab the entire store.”
River walked beside her, holding Maverick’s hand. “My brother and sister-in-law are strict. When they take the kids shopping, they only let them pick one or two toys at a time. It teaches them how to make choices.”
That said, most of the toys the kids owned were bought by their uncles.
His brother and sister-in-law always joked about how much they spoiled the kids.
Maverick’s love for building blocks was encouraged—his parents believed it helped with brain development.
Just then, someone nearby secretly snapped a photo of River and Romina walking together.
One of the bodyguards noticed immediately and confronted the person, demanding the photos be deleted.
The man denied taking any.
River caught wind of what happened. He handed Maverick to Romina and said, “Take the
kids to a dessert café. I’ll handle this.”
“Alright.”
He signaled the nanny to follow Romina and then turned back.
“Seventh Young Master,” the bodyguard reported, “we think this guy’s an entertainment reporter. He took photos of you and Miss Lafond. I asked him to delete them, but he keeps denying it.”
