In the small garden gazebo, Matthew and Shawn sat across from each other.
"Boss, shouldn't we be doing something else?" Shawn stared blankly at Matthew, unsure of what he had in mind. Since earlier, everything Matthew did left him a little confused.
Matthew gazed at the falling autumn leaves outside the gazebo and responded softly, "If you could figure out what I'm thinking now, you wouldn't still be calling me 'boss' now, would you?"
Matthew's words made Shawn ponder. He had a point—if Shawn had figured out what was in Matthew's head. He would've been his own boss now.
A cool breeze swept outside the gazebo as Matthew sat leisurely, showing no signs of urgency. After a while, two figures appeared in Shawn's line of sight.
"Holy sh*t! Had Boss seen this coming much earlier on?" Shawn was mind-blown, surprised by Shawn's foresight.
The servant dressed in black knelt before Matthew, his voice hoarse and full of grief. "I am a servant of the Mirren Family. Glaucus, the vice head of the family, forced me to go against you, Summit Warden. He secretly murdered my wife and child… Even my six-year-old daughter… he threw her into the kennel, where dozens of starving dogs tore her apart and devoured her!"
The servant's voice broke as he slammed his head to the ground in sorrow before Matthew. A loud thud echoed as his forehead collided with the floor. Blood slowly began to spread across the ground.
"Please bring Glaucus to justice and restore fairness for my wife and daughter!"
One also knelt beside Matthew, speaking gravely, "I, One of the Mirren family, am willing to expose all the evidence of Glaucus' crimes."
In the Mirren Family's ancestral hall, Glaucus silently knelt before a memorial plaque bearing the name of his father, the previous head of the Mirren Family, father to both Pontus and Glaucus.
"Father, Pontus only ever wanted to train in martial arts. Why did you insist on making him the successor?" Glaucus' voice echoed in the hall. "Pontus, Thalassius, Rhenus… Were any of them better than me at scheming or strategy? Even now, I've sent Thalassius and Rhenus to join you."
If anyone overheard these words, it would shock all of Dewsbury. No one would have believed that the man known for his philanthropy, who had generously supported struggling families for years, had secretly orchestrated the deaths of his two younger brothers. And if it weren't for Pontus being the Martial League President with his exceptional martial prowess, Glaucus likely would have disposed of him decades ago.
"Two, what's the update on One?" Glaucus asked as a figure entered the hall.
"Sir, One suddenly lost contact. There's been no word from him since."
