At that instant, the ministers, who had been envisioning their bright futures, shuddered.
Their eyes filled with dread as they stared at the sword lying before them.
What's happening? This isn't part of the script. By this point, shouldn't Gadel be compelled to abandon the idea of appointing Matthew as Prime Regent? Isn't he worried that all the ministers might submit their resignations and that all the citizens of Montiria might curse him?
Their eyes subtly shifted toward the high-ranking ministers at the front. In the past, they should have already risen to confront Gadel with anger.
The ministers in front felt the gaze upon them and turned to look back. However, those at the back didn't understand what it meant. It wasn't a look of reassurance. Instead, it was filled with sympathy.
The minister who had spoken first last night stepped out of line with large strides.
The other ministers were thrilled.
Looks like we're not going to die today.
However, the following words from that minister shattered their hopes, plunging them into complete despair.
"Your Majesty, Matthew is a significant benefactor to Montiria! We could never repay him with ingratitude! I implore you, with my blood-written plea, to please appoint Matthew as Montiria's Prime Regent!"
The other high-ranking ministers followed suit, holding their blood-written pleas in hand.
"Your Majesty, we implore you, with our blood-written pleas, to please appoint Mr. Larson as Montiria's Prime Regent!"
The other ministers turned ashen as they observed the scarred fingers of those before them.
An eerie silence settled over the ranks of the military commanders. They would never forget the events of that day.
Wave after wave of muscle-bound soldiers charged ahead with rocket launchers, attacking with reckless abandon.
"Moreover, when the late king was misled by the late Queen Arabella, he sent troops to attack Mr. Larson. However, Mr. Larson held no resentment. Instead, he supplied the late king with medicine to stabilize his condition. If Iris hadn't killed the late king, he would have lived to witness your ascension. Your Majesty, each of these actions alone would be sufficient to justify appointing Mr. Larson as Montiria's Prime Regent. Given that he has performed all of them, who could possibly be more deserving of the position than he?"
The minister stepped forward and roared, "I urge Your Majesty to take my counsel into consideration! Mr. Larson is the only one qualified to serve as regent! If Your Majesty refuses, I will die right here in this hall!"
His firm and resolute words completely overturned the ministers' usual image of cunning.
"We all agree! If Your Majesty does not consent, we will die right here too!"
