The reporters, shocked, asked again, "How did you escape your sister's assassination?"

Garrett's smile faded, and his face grew somber as he choked up, "I managed to escape thanks to the Eagle Knights assigned by my father to protect me. Unfortunately, they were ambushed and killed by Iris."

These statements had some truth to them. As far as he knew, his father had indeed had two Eagle Knights. Since they hadn't appeared after the king's death, something must have happened. Thus, Garrett used the protection of the Eagle Knights as an explanation for his survival and simultaneously proved that the late king valued him.
