Chapter 39
Back in the pack’s central grounds, Aurora sat with Lila near the fire, her thoughts racing. The weight of the day pressed heavily on her, and the twins stirred restlessly in her womb.
Lila reached over, placing a comforting hand on her daughter’s arm. “You’ve been strong through all of this,” she said gently.
“I don’t feel strong,” Aurora admitted, her voice trembling. “I feel like I’m just waiting for everything to fall apart.”
“Strength isn’t about not being afraid,” Lila said. “It’s about standing firm even when you are.”
Aurora nodded, her mother’s words offering a small measure of comfort.
Near the southern perimeter, Cassian stood with a small group of wolves, his senses sharp as he scanned the forest. The faint sound of rustling leaves and distant footsteps carried on the wind, setting the pack on edge.
“They’re probing us again,” Nathan said quietly, his voice barely audible.
Cassian’s eyes narrowed. “It’s more than that. Fenrir’s too patient for this to be a simple distraction.”
As if on cue, a howl echoed through the forest, low and guttural. It was a signal—a rallying cry.
Cassian’s wolves tensed, their eyes flicking toward the shadows as Fenrir’s forces emerged from the trees.
“Hold the line!” Cassian barked, his voice cutting through the tension like a blade.
In the forest, Fenrir pushed forward, his golden eyes blazing as he tore through Cassian’s defenses. The clash of the two Alphas seemed inevitable, the storm of their shared history driving them toward confrontation.
Cassian met Fenrir’s charge head-on, their snarls reverberating through the trees as they collided with bone-shaking force.
“You can’t protect her forever!” Fenrir snarled, his claws raking against Cassian’s flank.
“She doesn’t need you!” Cassian shot back, his voice a growl.
Their fight was brutal and unrelenting, neither Alpha willing to back down. Around them, the battle raged, the forest echoing with the sounds of wolves locked in combat.
As the night stretched on, Aurora clung to the hope that Cassian would return. But deep down, she knew that this fight was only the beginning of something much larger.
