Chapter 194
The moonlight filtered through the tall windows of the guest quarters as Aurora paced the room, her arms wrapped around herself. Cassian stood near the hearth, his expression dark with frustration.
“This is a mistake,” Cassian said sharply. “You know Fenrir. He doesn’t do anything without a selfish motive. He’s trying to back us into a corner.”
Aurora stopped, turning to face him. “I know that. But this alliance could prevent a war. Fenrir’s pack is powerful, and if we refuse outright, we risk creating an enemy.”
Cassian’s fists clenched. “And what about Elyra? She’s just a child, Aurora. She shouldn’t have to bear the weight of Fenrir’s ambitions—or ours.”
Aurora sighed, her shoulders sagging. “You think I don’t worry about that every day? I’m trying to balance what’s best for our family with what’s best for the pack. It’s not an easy choice.”
“Whatever Fenrir’s planning,” he murmured, “he won’t succeed. I won’t let him.”
Aurora nodded, her arms tightening around him. Together, they watched over their daughter, their silent vow unspoken but unwavering.
