Chapter 167
The attack came at twilight, the fading light casting long shadows over the camp. Arianna’s forces struck swiftly, slipping through the forest like specters. Wolves patrolling the outer defenses barely had time to sound the alarm before the clash of claws and steel rang out.
Cassian barked orders, his blade flashing as he defended a group of retreating scouts. Aurora emerged from the healer’s tent, her eyes blazing with determination as the energy of the Pact surged within her.
“Take the eastern flank!” Cassian shouted, his voice cutting through the chaos.
Aurora didn’t hesitate, sprinting toward the battle. She collided with Arianna in a clearing, their duel igniting the space in a flurry of light and shadow.
“I expected more from you,” Arianna sneered, her blade slicing dangerously close to Aurora’s side.
“We can’t let them bait us,” Cassian said, concern evident in his voice.
Aurora met his gaze, her resolve steeled. “They won’t need to. I’ll protect her, no matter what.”
