Love's Redemption (Chris and Maddie) novel Chapter 1015

"Alright, I will take care of you." Baldwin gave Lisa her first dose of warmth for the day.

"Dad, you're the best!" She hugged him.

Martha happened to walk in at that moment and saw the affectionate father-daughter duo. She snorted. "Are you two here to cook or chat? Dr. Carline, if you want to help, go change your clothes. If not, go outside and chat. And don't talk nonsense during Christmas."

"She's just saying that to deal with those people. Why do you care? You're always worrying about unnecessary things. You're bringing this on yourself." He stood up for Lisa.

"So you two are ganging up on me now, huh?" Martha glared at her.

Baldwin, always knowing when to back down, gave Lisa a look, signaling her to leave.

She walked away, but as she glanced back, she saw him trying to feed Martha, who was playfully swatting his hand.

Suddenly, she understood what Baldwin meant earlier. If a woman was lucky enough to find a man who adored her, he would have pampered her even when she erred.

Lisa had no intention of going back to chat with the others. She was about to slip away when she ran into Logan and Joelle outside the door.

He wore a black coat with a white turtleneck sweater underneath, making him look tall and elegant. She was in a pink cape-style coat paired with white boots, exuding a princess-like charm.

They looked like the starring couple in a drama—elegant, striking, and effortlessly sophisticated.

As they approached, Lisa felt a sudden, inexplicable weight settle over her heart.

Logan grunted and then said, "Let's go in."

After leaving the Cohen residence, Lisa didn't go to the hospital—she had already been there earlier. For a moment, she wasn't sure where to go. With the festivities in full swing, crowds filled every space, and she wasn't fond of bustling places.

In the end, she decided to visit the small hill behind her old high school. It wasn't tall, but back in her school days, she and her classmates often went there to hang out. She hadn't been back since graduating.

Just as Lisa had expected, the place was serene and quiet. She parked her car and began the climb. Though the hill wasn't steep, the ascent was still taxing. As she climbed, she distracted herself by admiring the pine trees. She picked up branches, fallen leaves, and fruits, arranging them into little designs.

It took her about an hour to reach the top. A few large rocks up at the top, their surfaces smooth and polished from years of people sitting on them. Without hesitation, Lisa lay down on one of them. The midday sunlight filtered through the branches above, so bright it made her squint.

She closed her eyes and allowed herself to bask in the sun's warmth. Unbeknownst to her, someone was approaching her.
