Chapter 91
Benson had just made it to the hospital when Madelyn was transferred to her ward. He went to consult the doctor while Andrew kept Madelyn company.
Madelyn wasn’t severely injured, so she was fully conscious. Noticing Andrew’s stoic expression, she pouted. “Darling, my head hurts.”
Why was he mad again? She had risked her life to save him! If she hadn’t shown up in time, he would’ve been stabbed near the heart. He almost died from this in his previous life.
Andrew scowled at her, completely unfazed by her coquettish demeanor.
His gaze made Madelyn feel uneasy. She whined again,” Darling, I’m thirsty!”
He still looked sullen, but he handed her the warm water
beside him nonetheless. Noting that he hadn’t softened up, she felt anxious.
“My hand hurts, too!”
The glass was placed heavily back on the table with a loud
thud, and it was then Madelyn realized that Andrew was
furious.
Usually, he could be overwhelmingly sweet, but he was also terrifying if he adopted an uncompromising demeanor.
“Tell me, where were you last night?” Andrew finally spoke, his
tone icy and stern.
Madelyn shrank back, seemingly hesitant to speak. Despite himself, his heart couldn’t help but melt when he saw her
reaction.
No one knew how he had endured the previous night. He thought she had eloped with Easton.
But seeing her bedridden state, he almost wished she had gone to Mavoria with Easton instead. At least she would’ve been safe when he brought her back.
Seeing Madelyn fumbling with her fingers with her head hung low, Andrew’s tone grew somber. “Speak up!”
“On the highway,” she blurted out in a fit of fright. She was most terrified of his rigor which reminded her of what he was like when she was young, so she didn’t dare to keep him in the
dark.
Silence enveloped the ward again, save for Andrew’s labored breathing.
Madelyn sniffed. “I was worried that you’d be distracted!”
He didn’t want her to come. But how could she comply when she knew that he’d be in danger?
Her large, pitiful eyes sparkled as she met Andrew’s gaze. Not one could resist her in this state, let alone Andrew who had always succumbed to her. His fury faded and was replaced by a sense of helplessness instead.
He sat next to Madelyn and took her into his embrace. As her scent filled his senses, he felt at ease.
“You’ve been misbehaving.”
Andrew realized she’d never been easy for him since she was born.
She was often sick when he first brought her home, and they often spent nights in the hospital. When she grew older, she
was a picky eater and developed a host of problems.
Snuggling into his embrace, Madelyn felt content listening to his palpable heartbeat. Her apprehension that stemmed from his trip to Lotivale also disappeared.
“Was it really just because you missed me?”
Madelyn was momentarily stunned. She knew Andrew wasn’t easy to deceive. Grabbing his shirt, she glanced up and kissed his jaw.
“I couldn’t rest easy with what Carrie said, so I came!” Carrie had said that Elijah wasn’t an easy target.
