Love That Wasn't Meant to Last novel Chapter 77

Hearing that, I didn't feel any joy at all.

There was a time when matching well with Selena would have made me happy, but things had changed.

Time had passed, people had changed, and now, I felt nothing but a sense of irony.

Seeing that I remained silent, Andy changed the topic.

"Why did you suddenly decide to join our company? If I remember correctly, people say you were a CEO at another company. Why would you give up a position like that and come here to be an assistant? Isn't that beneath you?"

I frowned and sighed before explaining, "I'm just here to help Selena. It's not like I'm going to be an assistant forever. I'll resign and leave when the time comes."

Andy raised an eyebrow, muttering to herself, "Being with Selena isn't bad. After all, she's a classic rich and beautiful woman.

"If I were a man and managed to catch Selena's eye, I wouldn't mind being taken care of by her. I don't have to work hard. Even if it was just for fun, I would gain a lot from it. It would be better than working hard myself."

I looked at Andy in disbelief.

Andy always seemed like an independent woman. Why would she say something like that?

It turned out you really couldn't judge a book by its cover.

After thinking for a moment, I said, "I would rather rely on myself than depend on someone else. I mean, I am a man, after all."

Hearing that, Andy laughed and raised her hand as if wanting to pat my shoulder, but stopped.

"Ha! I'm just kidding. I'm not that kind of person. I was only joking. But sometimes work really is exhausting."

She tilted her head back and sighed. "Hudson, sometimes I feel like if life is going to be like this forever, it would be better to just find a wall and bash my head against it."

I remained silent, unsure of how to respond.

I couldn't exactly tell Andy that we were in the process of getting a divorce.

I looked at her and didn't say anything, then took out my phone and found an excuse to walk away.

"Selena needs me for something. I'll talk to you later."

After leaving Andy, I found a spot to stand in the empty hallway. I felt heavy in my heart.

If there were no feelings left between Selena and me, why did she insist on clinging to me?

You could never force someone to love you.
