Love in Twilight novel Chapter 5

Clarissa exited the hospital after eight o’clock. It started drizzling. She took a public bus back to the company.

As Clarissa entered the company’s lobby, she saw Damien’s handsome and tall figure. One of his hands was in his trouser pocket while the other was holding a phone. He was talking to the receptionist. The lighting of the company’s lobby was extravagant and bright. It shone on Damien which made him look more noble and distant.

Clarissa suddenly felt nervous.

They had not met even once in the past few months. Why did she keep running into him lately?

When Damien passed by Clarissa, he was engaged in a call. She did not know whether he heard her greeting him.

After getting in the elevator, she watched as Damien’s figure disappeared into the night.

It rained heavily that night. Clarissa wondered if he had brought an umbrella.

In the past, her father often forgot to take an umbrella with him. Clarissa would run after him from behind, handing him an umbrella. Her father would pat her head and say, “Clary is all grown up now. You know how to take care of your dad.”

Tears clouded Clarissa’s eyes.

That day, she worked overtime until four in the morning.

Clarissa decided not to return to her rental house. She would just take a nap in the office and start working again once she woke up.

After lying on the table for a while, she was awakened by her phone’s ringtone.

Upon seeing the call was from Doctor Fisher, Clarissa hastily picked it up.

For the past two years, Doctor Fisher would only call when her mother’s condition deteriorated or when he needed her to pay the hospital bills.

“Clarissa, your mom had a fever after you left. It’s probably due to an accumulation of phlegm in her lungs…”

“Is it serious?” Clarissa stood up from her seat anxiously.

Sixty thousand was hardly anything in comparison to five million dollars.

Clarissa’s heart started to waver.

She used to think that she could earn five million dollars herself. Unfortunately, it was just an unrealistic thought.

Her mother really needed a caregiver. Doctor Fisher had already mentioned this to her before, but she could not afford it. Due to that, phlegm accumulated in her mother’s lungs.

Clarissa knew that Damien was an exceptional man. It was relatively easy for him to find a woman to marry. Damien even said that he had already searched around. Was she too late? Had things changed after one night?

Upon thinking of that, Clarissa became impatient. She immediately went to Damien’s office.

It was past five o’clock. There was nobody in Damien’s office. Clarissa stood at the door and waited for him.

Just when her eyelids were getting heavy, Damien arrived.
