Leaving You Bereft (Willow and Julian) novel Chapter 283

Julian also told Dexter that Willow didn't have many friends or relatives. He wanted Dexter to maintain a good relationship with them.

Just like that, Julian asked for favors and pulled strings to pave the path for Willow. His condition deteriorated with every passing day, and he regularly forgot things. Sometimes, his memory would only work for a maximum of six hours a day.

He started reducing the time he spent at home—he frequently forgot about Willow and the children. He spent nights at the company, only returning home when he was in better condition.

When he saw Willow, he was always tender and treated her like she was a treasure. But when he wasn't with her, he was basically unreachable. Why? Because he couldn't remember anything.

Esther was always the one who answered the calls for him and made excuses for him, saying he was busy or attending to someone.

One day, Julian couldn't hang on anymore. He stopped being able to remember anything. He had a note in his pocket with Esther's phone number on it. He'd worried that he would even forget about her and throw the note away in one of his muddle-headed moments.

It was September, and Willow was a month away from her due date. She could barely find Julian anymore, as was the case for the children. She didn't know what was wrong with him, but she wanted answers. If he wanted to call it quits, he had to at least make himself clear.

One day, she received a phone call from Julian. He asked her out for a meal at their regular restaurant on a fall evening, just like before.

Willow arrived at 7:30 pm, her belly swollen from her pregnancy. She'd already made an appointment with her doctor for a C-section, but Julian didn't know that. She hadn't been able to reach him to tell him.

The moon hung high in the sky outside the window, and Julian stood there, looking elegant and mysterious.

"Julian," Willow said.

She said calmly, "Landon hasn't been sleeping well, and Gabriella keeps asking about you. Setting aside being busy with work, I want to know whether you've met someone else. If you have, you can just be frank about it. I won't pester you."

She became choked up. "The kids really miss you."

Julian tightened his grip on his wine glass but kept his expression calm. He looked at Willow and said, "Things will get better once this busy period is over."

After some consideration, he said, "There isn't anyone else—I just feel stressed because of how different we are. I love you, but I also feel exhausted. Can you get what I mean, Willow?"

Willow looked at him. She did, in fact, know what he meant. He wanted to end things.
