Chapter 149

Caleb glanced at Willow and asked, Where did this piece of work come from?

Julian banged hard on Willow’s car window while Alicia moved forward, trying to tug at his sleeve.

Julian brushed her aside, sending Alicia crashing right into a lamppost sign and cutting her forehead on the sharp metal edge. Her fragile constitution immediately caused her to lose consciousness on the spot.

Julian was momentarily taken aback before he hurriedly scooped Alicia into his arms and frantically called out her name.

Alicia’s face was deathly pale, with her lips trembling uncontrollably. There was a steady flow of blood trickling from the gash on her forehead.

Julian glanced at Willow’s car, then at Alicia in his arms. He gritted his teeth, opened his car door, put Alicia inside, and then sped off toward the hospital. Though his heart longed for a future with Willow, he couldn’t bear the thought of harm befalling

Alicia.

Caleb turned to Willow and asked, Is that the hypocrite’s old flame?

There was still a trace of tears in the corners of Willow’s eyes as she said, You shouldn’t concern yourself with my personal

affairs.

Caleb immediately yelled, You actually still like him? What’s so great about that twotiming scumbag? Why not go for me instead? I mean, I’m from a loaded family, I’m young and attractive, and I’m definitely in much better shape than him. In addition, I’m a total spendthrift, so you would actually be the one in charge of the Young family. I bet that would drive Julian insane!

Willow turned and regarded Julian quietly. It was only after a long silence that she finally exclaimed, How delusional!

Having stepped on the gas, Caleb still wouldn’t let up as he exclaimed, “I’m being serious here! I’ve never been this interested in a woman before, so you should be honored!

Willow offered him no response whatsoever. She was concerned that Heather would worry about what had transpired, so she made up an excuse about going back to her apartment. She then switched off her phone, telling no one her whereabouts. She stood on the apartment’s rooftop, silently working through the pain the relationship had brought her.

Though she had repeatedly convinced herself that it was all in the past, Julian wouldn’t let her move on.

It was a peaceful night in the city, and Willow, clad in a black jacket, stood with her long, dark hair whipping around her in the fierce night breeze.

Caleb came up behind her and offered her a can of beer, saying, Have a drink. It’s guaranteed to have you out like a light until

the sun comes up.

Willow merely glanced at the can of beer, not accepting it. It’s clear that only the weak use alcohol to drink their sorrows away.

Caleb, feeling called out by Willow’s remark, retorted, Is this your way of telling me that you’ve never had a drink before? I don’t buy that for a second!

Though she’d had drinks in the past, Willow kept that information to herself.

Caleb walked over to her, took a swig of his beer, and grumbled, What’s so great about him anyway? He’s such a phony! Is that really your type, someone so disingenuous? He even looks like my old man!

Willow smiled faintly and said, You should probably call him Dad the next time you see him, then.

Caleb retorted, In his dreams!

In the VIP ward of Heartwell Hospital, Alicia had been treated and was no longer in critical condition. In the hallway outside, Julian frantically tried to reach Willow, but her phone was turned f.

She hadn’t gone back to the Chapman residence, nor had she gone to the house in the southern suburbs. Julian, feeling increasingly anxious, decided to go and search for Willow.

Julian, thinking that Alicia was no longer in danger, decided that it was time for him to be upfront with her. He calmly stated his decision in the VIP ward, I’ll take you back to Grandsburg once you’re feeling better. You shouldn’t return to Brindley again. It’s what we previously agreed on, after all. I’m really sorry, Alicia, but m in love with someone else now.

Upon hearing that, Alicia’s complexion drained of all color.

Julian held her gaze for a moment longer, then turned to leave.

In the very next instant, Alicia reached out and embraced him, clinging tightly to his back as she sobbed, saying, You can’t leave me, Julian. I won’t let you go after her!
