Zoltan didn't answer.
Thatch was about to speak again, but he caught Solomon’s fierce glare and fell silent. He had been taken from the asylum by Solomon and sent abroad. How was he suddenly back in the country, in Zoltan’s car?
Solomon’s hands were clenched into tight fists. He was in the same situation as Thatch; he had woken up to find himself in Zoltan’s car. And he wasn't alone. Fraser was there, and so was Haskell’s father, Thatch, the man he’d personally sent overseas.
In an instant, he understood. Haskell had set them up.
Fraser, of course, had been the first to realize it. He knew Haskell had trapped him, but he didn't know exactly what Sire had planned for Zoltan. He suspected the car had been tampered with—either the brakes were cut, or a bomb was planted. In any case, being in the same car as Zoltan was definitely not safe.
Fraser kept his composure. “Grandpa, what is going on?”
Zoltan finally spoke. “I don’t know. This morning, as we were leaving, Haskell had some men carry you all in here. He said something was bound to happen today and that I might be in danger. He said I’d be safer if you were in the car with me.”
Fraser didn't quite believe him.
Was Zoltan really in the dark? Or was he putting on a show with Haskell to force them to confess their plan to use Sire for revenge?
If it was an act, Zoltan wouldn't put himself in real danger. But if it wasn't an act, and he didn't stop Sire's plan, he would die right alongside Zoltan.
