“Knock, knock, knock.”
The sound was soft, but it echoed clearly in the quiet office.
Ursa’s voice came from the other side of the door. “Ms. Judson, Leopold is here to see you.”
Larissa’s eyebrow arched slightly.
Leopold?
Speak of the devil.
“Let him in,” she said, her voice calm as she sat up straighter.
“Okay.”
A moment later, the office door opened, and Leopold walked in.
He was a mess. His face was covered in stubble, his hair was disheveled, and his normally arrogant features were etched with exhaustion. It was clear the past few days had not been kind to him, especially after learning that his own father, Paxton, had hired someone to kill his mother. His mental state was clearly fragile.
“Larissa…” He seemed to catch himself, then corrected his address. “Ms. Judson.”
“What is it?” Perhaps it was his use of her formal title, but Larissa’s expression softened slightly. As long as his family gave up their delusions of reconciliation, of returning to the Judson family and reclaiming their inheritance, she was willing to treat them as strangers. Holding onto resentment served no purpose.
“I’m planning to take my mother abroad,” Leopold said, his voice laced with resignation. “A music company overseas is very interested in my talent and wants to sign me. They’re even willing to pay the ten-million-dollar breach of contract fee, though Gale Entertainment will still get all the royalties from my last album.”
