His tone was absolute, leaving no room for negotiation.
“Heh.” A mocking smile curled Haskell’s lips.
“What are you laughing at?” Solomon demanded, staring at Haskell, trying to decipher his reaction.
Haskell slowly raised his head, his gaze meeting Solomon’s. It was cold and dismissive. “I’m laughing at what a short-sighted fool you are.”
Solomon was livid.
“Haskell! You and Larissa are the ones who brought this loss upon the Palmer family! And you have the nerve to call me a fool?” he roared, his voice trembling with rage.
But Haskell was unmoved. He continued to fix Solomon with that icy stare. “What else would I call you? If the Palmer family were left in your hands, it wouldn't be long before the Lincolns crushed us completely. You’d end up groveling at their feet like a stray dog.”
His words struck Solomon like a physical blow, leaving him speechless.
“Oh, you’re so brilliant,” Solomon sneered. “As if you have what it takes to defeat the powerhouse behind the Lincoln family.”
“Would I have let Larissa proceed if I wasn’t confident?” Haskell countered.
Solomon was momentarily stunned. “You’re confident?”
Then, realization dawned. “So you did do this on purpose! You used this as a weapon to take down my father and me!”
“It still comes down to your and Uncle Tobias’s lack of oversight,” Haskell replied coolly. He then added, “I haven’t even brought up the fact that you kidnapped my father to threaten me, yet here you are, playing the victim. If we’re going to play dirty, let’s at least be fair about it.”
