Larissa gently took her mother's wrist. "It's alright, Mom. I'm actually curious to see who this man is and what he wants with me."
"Larissa, you shouldn't take such a risk…" Sapphira protested.
"Mom, I'm already on my guard. Nothing will happen, I promise," Larissa reassured her.
Knowing her daughter had a mind of her own, Sapphira didn't push the matter further. "Alright. Just be careful."
When the young man was brought back to the living room, cleaned and bandaged, Sapphira looked closely at his face and gasped.
"Isn't this… Josette's son, Fergus Lincoln?"
Larissa's eyes glinted.
Oh? A Lincoln? So, Lucius was hit so badly he can't act himself, and he’s using his cousin as bait? He must have had him beaten severely to make it look convincing.
Just then, Fergus slowly opened his eyes. His face was pale as a sheet, and he looked incredibly weak. His gaze fell on Sapphira, and he put on a pitiful expression.
"Aunt Sapphira," he rasped, his voice hoarse. "It's me."
The title made Sapphira slightly uncomfortable. Fergus rarely visited the Judson estate; even during holidays, Josette usually came alone. Sapphira barely knew him.
