“There’s no rush,” Paxton said. “My gift will be delivered a little later.”
The gift he had in mind for his wretched daughter was a video of his wife, Vivica, being tortured during her kidnapping. He planned to deepen the rift between them.
“But… why isn’t Vivica here yet?” he wondered. “Hope nothing went wrong on Lucius’s end.”
Josette was more direct. “What money do I have for gifts? Anything too cheap, I’m sure my dear niece would look down on, so it’s better not to give anything at all.”
It was a joke. She wouldn’t waste a single cent on that little bitch Larissa. If it weren’t for her, Josette wouldn’t be in this miserable state.
Kiernan shot her a sharp look. “It seems to me you just don’t want to.”
“Dad, don’t say that. I really don’t have any money,” Josette retorted, her tone shifting to a sarcastic whine. “Not after you gave the entire family fortune to my wonderful niece.”
She wasn’t worried. Paxton had assured her he would deal with Larissa at this party and regain control of the Judson family. Once Kiernan lost his backing, she wouldn’t have to put up with his attitude anymore.
“You have the nerve to complain?” Kiernan said, his face cold. “No matter how much I gave you, you’d squander it all.”
Josette pouted but didn’t argue further.
As Haskell settled back at the table, Paxton adopted a look of sincere concern and asked loudly, “Haskell, you’re being so generous with my daughter, willing to offer up your entire fortune as a gift. I have to wonder, did you get Zoltan’s approval for such a decision?”
