Lucius’s face was a thundercloud, his brow deeply furrowed. A crushing pressure filled the room.
A world-class hacker? Would someone of that caliber really be hired just to flip a switch at his club so Larissa could rough up Theon? It seemed like a ridiculous waste of talent. This meant Larissa's true goal must have been to publicly humiliate Neverending Night and tarnish its reputation in Regal City.
"What about the surveillance room?" Lucius asked, his voice dangerously low.
The head of security, who had been summoned, swallowed nervously. "All… all of Neverending Night's surveillance feeds went down the moment before Larissa arrived and only came back online after she left."
A vein throbbed in Lucius's temple. "Larissa," he seethed, "I underestimated you yet again."
It was clear he had to take her challenge seriously.
"Aidric," he commanded, "run another background check on Larissa. Dig into everything before she returned to the Judson family. I want to know what else she’s hiding."
After tonight, Lucius was certain she was more than just some girl brought back from a village. There had to be a powerful force behind her, one that gave her the audacity to operate so brazenly in Regal City, even daring to challenge the Lincoln family.
He just had to find out how powerful that force really was. After all, the Lincolns had their own powerful backers to rely on.
...
Livia had just returned to the apartment she owned when the doorbell rang. She checked the peephole, but no one was there. Puzzled, she opened the door to find a small box on her doorstep.
She picked it up but, wary of obsessed fans, decided not to open it right away.
A moment later, her phone rang. It was Larissa.
