“You’re lying!” Vivica shrieked, pointing a crimson-nailed finger at Larissa. “You know you poisoned him!”
Larissa just shrugged, her eyes wide with innocence. “If you don’t believe me, Aunt Vivica, feel free to call a doctor to examine him.”
“Do it,” Kiernan commanded, his voice cold. “Call the doctor.”
Finley shifted uncomfortably. “Grandpa, a doctor won’t be able to find anything. The poison Larissa used is… unusual. It’s undetectable.”
“If it’s undetectable,” Kiernan retorted, his face hardening, “then it doesn’t exist!”
Avril, relishing her role as chaos-maker, chimed in. “He’s right, Mr. Judson. They’re just making excuses to save their own skin!”
“No, Grandpa, it’s real,” Finley insisted. “I don’t know how she did it, but it’s real. The poison has flare-ups, so…”
He trailed off as he saw the mocking smile on Larissa’s face. He had been about to suggest that they wait for an episode to prove his point, but her expression filled him with a sudden dread. He had the distinct feeling she had another trick up her sleeve.
And she did. The “poison” was derived from Shadow’s saliva, and she could control its effects at will. Unless she triggered it, Finley would feel nothing.
