Everyone knew Larissa had grown up around poisons and medicine. Trying to drug her would be a fool’s errand—downright suicidal.
After cursing Draven out, Torrin glanced down at the invitation in his hand. He was definitely going to that party tomorrow. He would win Larissa back, fair and square. And he’d tell her all about Draven’s pathetic little scheme. She would undoubtedly be moved to tears by his devotion.
…
The Judson Estate, East Wing Villa.
At eleven o’clock, Nightveil called.
“Boss, I found it. The person investigating you was sent by Leopold. But he was killed right after he finished his investigation into your past.”
“Killed?” Larissa was surprised. She was certain none of the villagers were responsible.
Was someone intentionally trying to stop Leopold’s investigation?
But why?
The only explanation was Honora. She was afraid Leopold would find out that she had once hired people to harm Larissa.
Now this was getting interesting.
“Do you know what Leopold’s man found out?”
“Although he’s dead, I discovered he met with a wilderness explorer just before he was killed. I followed that lead and found out the explorer had told him about a strange incident in the mountains. He saw a young girl deep in the forest, surrounded by venomous snakes and insects. At first, the explorer thought she was in trouble, but when he got closer, he realized she was actually playing with them. He panicked, snapped a picture of the horrifying scene, and ran.”
“I see.”
After hanging up, Larissa gently prodded Sage, her pet snake, who was coiled beside her, trying to look cute.
Ever since discovering her passion for medicine and toxicology, Larissa had spent a lot of time in the mountains, interacting with and collecting various snakes and poisonous insects. She either kept them as pets or placed them as guards in her herb garden.
She remembered an encounter with a hiker who had stumbled upon her, completely at ease amidst a swarm of venomous creatures. The man had fled in terror. She never knew he had taken a photo.
