Larissa blinked innocently. “Why are you so surprised, Aunt Josette? Didn’t Uncle Paxton and Aunt Vivica tell you about my shares?”
Seeing that Larissa wasn’t bluffing, Josette shot to her feet, furious. “This is outrageous! I’m going to find Dad and ask him what he was thinking!”
Just then, a deep, authoritative voice cut through the room.
“Josette, what is it you want to ask me?”
The familiar, intimidating voice instantly deflated Josette’s anger by half. She waited until Kiernan, leaning on Jett’s arm, had settled onto the sofa before voicing her complaint. “Dad, I heard you gave this… girl… ten percent of our pharmaceutical company and thirty percent of Starlight Media. Is that true?”
Kiernan’s expression was unreadable. “Do you have a problem with that?”
“A problem?” Josette exclaimed, jumping to her feet. “Dad, I’m your daughter, and I don’t own a single share of the family business! Yet this girl, who just arrived, gets this much? How is that fair? Have I ever done anything to disappoint you? Why is there such a huge difference in how we’re treated? Is it just because she’s your long-lost granddaughter that you favor her so much?”
Kiernan remained unmoved by her tirade.
