It seemed his only option left was to find the so-called poison expert from the auction house. He would have to stake the place out until she appeared.
“Starting today, I want someone watching the main Regal City auction house around the clock. If anyone puts a rare medicinal herb up for sale, I want to know immediately.”
“Yes, Mr. Judson.”
After hanging up, Finley leaned back in his chair, exhausted. He spun slowly, staring out at the city lights. He had been wrong. His whole family had been wrong. Larissa was far more dangerous than any of them had imagined.
But it was too late to back down now. He wondered if things would be different if he had investigated her first, instead of immediately acting on Leopold’s complaints.
But regret was useless now.
As Larissa had said, it was a fight to the death. His only path forward was to find a cure for the poison, defeat her by any means necessary, and break her spirit so completely that she could never get back up again.
With renewed resolve, Finley decided he wasn't ready to go home. He wanted to check on Leopold. He left the office and drove straight to the hospital.
