Exhausted, Kiernan waved a hand. “I’m putting an end to this today. We’re dropping it. Understood?”

Paxton finally spoke. “As you say, Dad.”

Now it was Vivica’s turn to fume in silence.

Sapphira looked at Larissa, knowing she must be seething. “It’s up to Larissa. If she wants to let it go, we’ll let it go. If not, then it’s not over.”

Vivica’s eyes widened in alarm. “Sapphira, we’re the ones who have been wronged today! What does she have to not let go of?”

“You hurt Wren,” Larissa stated flatly.

“What?” Vivica let out a derisive laugh. “She’s just a housekeeper! I was terrorized by you for half the day and I haven’t said a word! You think her little injury is worse than what I went through?”

Wren stared, tears welling in her eyes. Miss Larissa was too kind, standing up for her like this.

Larissa’s smile was chilling. “A housekeeper knew enough to protect me. You, a worthless creature, didn’t. Why on earth would I care if you were hurt?”

The words hit Vivica like a slap.

Kiernan looked thoughtfully at Wren, then sighed with a profound sense of sorrow. “She has a point. What a mess…”
