Larissa considered this for a moment. “Do you need my help with anything? Like picking out decorations or finalizing the guest list?”
“No,” Haskell said gently. “Just give me the list of guests you want to invite. If you have any specific requests, let me know, but you don’t need to worry about the tedious details.”
She stretched again. “Alright then. I’m not a fan of planning these things anyway. In that case, I leave it all in your capable hands.”
“Good,” Haskell said, his tone serious. “Larissa, I promise that at this engagement party, you will be the object of everyone’s envy, not their pity. They won’t be laughing about how the true Judson heiress had to take Honora’s place and marry a cripple.”
...
It was four in the afternoon when Larissa arrived back at the Judson estate. Her plan was to take a short nap before dinner, capping off a rather eventful day.
But as she approached the East Villa, she heard arguing from beyond the courtyard gate.
“Paxton, Vivica, I’ve already told you Miss Larissa is not home. Whatever you need, please wait until the master and madam return.”
“If we wait for them, how are we supposed to teach that little witch a lesson? Is she hiding inside because she’s too scared to come out?”
Larissa narrowed her eyes. Vivica again. Only this time, she’d brought Paxton with her, along with several bodyguards who were in a tense standoff with the villa’s security detail. It seemed they were here to settle the score from this morning.
