Irresistible Boss Succumbing to Your Touch (Maria Anita) novel Chapter 3

Rita’s POV

The day was scorching hot and I returned from church exhausted, desperately needing a shower and a cold drink. It was tiring to play the role of an abandoned wife and having to accept all the advice and laments about my ungrateful husband who had left home. Truth be told, when I arrived and realized Orlando had moved out, I was quite pleased - I was already tired of him, but I needed to maintain my role as the loving abandoned wife.

"Cida! Cida!" I called for the maid, but she was such a dimwit, always taking forever to show up.

"Yes, ma'am?" Cida appeared, drying her hands on her apron.

"Where's Julian?"

"Sleeping, ma'am."

"Bring me something cold to drink, I'm burning up." The maid left the room and returned with a tray holding the refreshment. She was looking at me suspiciously. "What is it, Cida?"

"Ma'am, Cam was here earlier."

"What did that good-for-nothing come to do at my house? Did you let him in, you useless thing?" I had already forbidden that insufferable man from entering my house, and even after Manuela left, he hadn't come back here. So, why this unwanted visit?

"Ma'am, I couldn't stop him, he just walked in and said he would wait for you, then he asked for coffee..."

"You left that piece of trash alone, you incompetent?"

"Ma'am, he asked for coffee, I just went to the kitchen to make it. And that rude man even spat out the coffee and said it was bad." Cida said grumpily.

"Your coffee is bad indeed." I had to agree with that. "Did he touch anything?"

"He just went to the bathroom, ma'am."

"And you let him, you useless thing?"

"When I brought the coffee, he was coming back from inside and said he had gone to the bathroom, ma'am, I didn't even see him."

"Good Lord, how useless! Go on, Cida, get out of my sight before I throw this glass at your head." She disappeared from the room, and I was left wondering what that boy came here for, what he was looking for.

The doorbell rang insistently, and Cida ran past me to open the door. I had just gotten back from church and hadn't had any peace yet. My plans to take a shower and rest were being ruined.

"Good morning, Rita!" Calvin showing up at my house was unusual - he and Orlando didn't get along well.

"Calvin? What are you doing here?" I asked, surprised by the visitors knocking at my door today.

"Came to have a little chat with you. It's about our agreement." Just what I needed - this man backing out of marrying his good-for-nothing son to Manuela.

"I already told you I'm going to bring that girl back. Don't worry."

"Your little boy is just as worthless as mine." Calvin laughed, knowing he had hit my weak spot.

"Of course he is, he's learning from your son, isn't he? But my son has a mother to fight for him and look after his interests." He wasn't going to talk about my son like that.

"Some mother!" Calvin laughed. He seemed to be in a very good mood. "Here's the deal, Rita. I'll give you one month to bring the girl back, one month. And she won't marry my son, she'll marry me."

"What do you mean, marry you?" As much as Manuela would suffer horribly marrying an old man, Calvin would give her a good life, unlike his son, who I knew well how he mistreated women. "The deal was for her to marry your son."

"Oh, come on, Rita! It doesn't matter if it's me or my son, what matters is what I'll pay you, and I'll pay you double for her to marry me." But the old scoundrel's proposal was good.

"Double, huh? Were you that impressed with her?" I found it interesting, as Calvin had been a widower for many years and never wanted to remarry.

"Double and nothing more. Don't try to take more advantage of this." He warned me, and I knew him well enough to know it was better to accept his offer.

"Fine, within a month the brat is yours, you can do whatever you want with her." I agreed to the deal; it was advantageous for me.

"You really hate her, don't you?" Calvin looked at me with great interest.

"She ran away from home, Calvin, filled me with shame, she deserves good punishment." That was all the explanation he would get from me. "Now go, get out of my house, I'll let you know when I have news."

Calvin finally left my house, laughing, with a happiness that was even strange. I grabbed my purse; I would pay a little visit to that pest Cam at the company.
